Default Anson mystery graphic/city clerk letters/Harper's Weekly

Posted By: Howard W. Rosenberg

If you're reading this around breakfast time, maybe a little shot of Cap Anson will get you ready for the day .

I've been writing a series in books that in some way relate to him and have gotten oodles of help from the collector crowd. The main help to date has been in graciously scanning graphics for me (usually at 300 dpi). My graphical wants are quite small, but it's much easier at this point to post them than contact folks individually. Here goes:

1. What publication/source is the attached graphic (probably below) from? I'd also be grateful if I can obtain a better-generation scan.

2. Two graphics from Harper's Weekly (1882 image of the Chicago team and the 1883 one of the Chicago grounds). They’re on the magazine’s Web site but with a so-called moire pattern (sounds like another thing we can blame the French for).

3. Cap wrote letters in the 20th century that have his autograph but, of interest to me, also talk about his various ventures (clustered around 1906). Chances are I've seen the vast majority of the letters but figured I'd ask anyway. If you have any of his writings (from any era), I can fill you in on the context of what he wrote.

4. In general, if you've got anything unusual (and non-baseball card-)related to Cap (or the Chicago players or club of his day), I'd be glad to learn about them. I did look through old auction catalogs about a year ago. Baseball card images are far easier to account for than other types of images, so that's why my interest relates to pretty much anything but.

Thanks so much for your possible help.
