Default What's the Deal With This T206?

This card was pulled by the seller and I'm not sure why. It was starting to go for a lot. Is this a scrap or just an extreme example of bad/off registration?

You answered your question. Looks like it started at $0.99, people started bidding it up... I'd be willing to bet someone emailed the seller w/ a high enough offer that he pulled the card.

It looks trimmed and really beat up with a lot of creases.

Nope, I was the high bidder when the auction was pulled. The seller stated that "he had received a lot of interest in the cards (he had two similar) and wanted to investigate further and maybe have it them graded".

I don't know who else was bidding, but I brought it up to the $34+ that it was at when it was pulled, solely because of my Dode Paskert back/variation run.

I'm pretty bummed as it would have made a nice addition to the Paskert collection. Not sure what the value would be considering the poor condition, but it was more about the player and uniqueness than price for me

And I did email the seller asking if he would consider an offer and was told that he didn't close auctions early (too many headaches)....

Whatever price the card is eventually sold for, it'll be half of what it's really worth.

Well Steve...for your collection...I can see the allure...but as a single card...standing alone...it looks like a beaten piece of crap to me!

Agreed! It is a beaten piece of crap, but someone must have somehow convinced the seller that it was worth a boatload of cash!

It is a scrap - the blocky overprint you see is a print layer from another card. It is shifted so you actually have parts of two cards printed here (the gap between them is the space between the images on the two cards).

What do people think about the long-term value of scraps? I could see convincing someone to pay a big price now but does anyone think someone would buy this card for more than a poor common price 20 years from now?

I can tell you that my only interest in this particular scrap is because of the player. No idea what it's worth, but I believe that I'd be paying more than most on this one because of the player...

haha yeah i would be surprised if examples like these keep going up long term. Seems like they are the now thing in T206's until the next variation comes along. Just like missing color use to be.

Yes, but when it goes up for sale on BST it will be described as "severely undergraded."

This seller has had a few scraps so its highly likely legit, looking forward to seeing a better scan of it.

Agreed, but the odd thing is that they had different backs. Paskert is a SC 350, while Maloney and Ganzel are Piedmont 350.

I really, really, really need to have the Paskert!!!

Speaking of Johnny, where the heck is he? I can't believe there is a discussion about a possible scrap with no Johnny input

Default here's............

johnny!

I have been super busy! card is 1000% SCRAP....

what, no one posted the Maloney???

lol.......if collectors even knew....

Bryan was on the right track.....Chris will elaborate some more on paskert....it has the cool upside down magenta" block" 2 player ghost over print front...

Maloney was the second BEAUTY! another dual upside down magenta over print front...

HONESTLY I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS ABOUT SCRAP...

I truly love them....

advanced collectors....historians....deciphers of the set....print expert and veteran collectors will appreciate their inherent beauty...

the cards were perfectly "camied" as beaters....they fly right under the radar..

the blank back snodras, the McBride yellow brown and now these two other scraps came from the same collection...

there was also a "tweener" scrap in the lot......ganzel if anyone was astute enough to decern it...

geeze....these cards are so obvious to spot.......you guys have a lot to learn

Default btw....

can anyone identify the overprint player that is viewable on paskert...

hint....hint....Chris narrowed it down to two....I think I may know who it is...

Default packs...

btw....scrap will not just be a "fad" ......that comes and goes...

collectors had / have no idea what they were/ are ....... even now....

no one really understands them yet fully..... a handful of extremely advanced print experts and computer graphic techs and scholars / researchers of the set....

this will all change as education advances ....they are truly "diamonds" in the rough....snowflakes if you will....

everyone that is "found" or " newly discovered" is a step closer to understanding how the set was printed....at the same time....the printer's created these little beautiful frakencards in advertently .....

they are like finding fossils....as you unearth them, you make new discoveries....

EXCITING SHIT after over 100 years of printing...huh??

every new scrap is a newly discovered piece of the puzzle....

these cards give more clues to the set than any other "common" card...

as collectors become more educated, watch these get chased even more...

ignorance to these cards has been very obvious...

sometimes I wished I never opened my mouth.....makes getting my gems almost impossible now...

bitter sweet I guess???

Well, hopefully it will come up for sale at some point in the near future. As the high bidder, it kind of sucks that the ebay seller pulled it rather than let the auction run to conclusion. Clearly, a number of people were aware of the listing. Guess I'll have to add in a BP if the seller decides to consign. Oh well, back to the Dode Paskert hunt.

Now, if someone had a Dode T213-1 coupon for sale, that might ease the pain (I know, shameless plug!)

Steve,

After he pulled the auction, I asked the seller why he pulled the card. He told me that so many people were asking him to sell the card offline that he figured he must have missed something, he couldn't figure out why all the interest in it. So your offer of $50 to end the auction and sell it to you straight was a big reason for ending the auction. Before that he figured it was a $10 card. Sorry, I know lots of people contact sellers to buy off line, but this time it backfired, and now the seller realizes this is not just an old beater like he thought.

Hi Ed,

Yup, I'm kicking myself for making the offer rather than just hoping it would play out, but like you said, a bunch of people were asking him about the card, so I think it would have been pulled (along with the Maloney and Ganzel) either way.

The funny thing is that's the first time that I've ever emailed a seller to try and get him to end an auction early. I was worried that someone else would make an offer and that the auction would be pulled, but I guess karma came back at me!

Desiderata

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Strive to be happy.

What *isn't* the deal with this card? It looks like it has gone through the ringer more than a few times!
