Looks fake, especially next to this graded one:

I've owned quite a few busted-up E90-1s. I've never seen that sort of chipping/paper loss around the borders like that before. Underneath the surface of the card the stock should be white, not that dark "cardboard gray".

Definitely a Fake!

As Paul has mentioned, the Paper is All wrong!
The Colors & gloss on the card also show that the card is a repo...

I also don't believe that the repo has been trimmed,
& wit the corners bein so sharp iN its present condition
iS also a Complete stretch of possibilities!

Here is One of my MaTTy's!

Followup question...so what is the best course of action to get out of paying for it? Or am I stuck with a $90 learning lesson?

I'm no expert on the subject as luckily I'm not smart enough to detect fake cards but I buy graded cards =) If you haven't paid for it just tell him that you believe it to be a reprint and aren't comfortable and if he tells you you have to tell him you'll file a claim with eBay for miss-labeling his item in a fraud/esc manner.

I agree - it will qualify as an ebay "Item not as described" as the seller claimed it to be from 1909. You MIGHT even want to contact ebay and let them know what you are up to and why you want to withhold payment!

Good Luck!

This is an easy one as it was claimed as original. The seller probably doesn't know and it might not even be an issue once you tell them...good luck

He agreed to cancel the transaction, stating that he was sorry that I did not feel it was authentic but that I was entitled to my opinion and so he was going to cancel the sale. I was disappointed to see that he has relisted it, but am glad I did not get stuck with an $80 learning experience! Thanks for the help guys.

I'd like to see better pics of this card. Not convinced it's fake. I've never seen an e90 reprint that looked like that.

Smell test? A decent picture first and then I'll smell it Paul.

Doesn't look fake to me.

+1. Caption looks washed out in the scan, but I dont think it's a fake either.

Maybe it's real but I don't like the way the aging looks, or the brightness of some areas on the front, and the scan isn't too helpful either.
