There were 1800s Christian and bible learning trading cards and Jesus appeared on numerous. There has to be a trading card where Jesus first appeared. I suppose age 1900 is up there for a rookie, but it took Koufax a few years to find the strike zone.

I wonder what Billy Sunday would have thought if someone told him his got a trading card before Jesus.

This card is clearly a reprint. The picture has been skinned and put on a 1901 celebs in France playing card and scanned to look authentic.

came with four other Seinfelds. "Not that there's anything wrong with that" is a great line, but as for the SHOW--I found it contrived and unbelievable. Eileen (name?)--to satisfy an eavesdropper at the table behind them (whom she doesn't know from Adam--or Eve--) starts spouting off about S and G being gay, and why don't they come out of the closet? RIDICULOUS! Of course,
giant confusions result. I thought ALL the other 4 Seinfelds were better than that one. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Don't remember that it was graded and my eyes aren't good enough to tell if it is holdered in the Leno photo. But yea, Kevin, that's the same card. The Jesus Christ rookie card, predates his Zeenut by a couple of decades.

It's a bit startling when an old thread is resurrected, seeing the posts of bygone contributors. Runscott and Julie, the Burns and Allen of Net54, such a cute couple. Kind of makes me nostalgic for 2005. Life was so much simpler then.

Thought it was funny so I bought it raw and had Global holder it...just for protection. Knowing me I would drop it or mess it up somehow. It wasn't slabbed in the Leno picture. I'm just curious if the recent ebay auction used my images.

Alan...from what I remember your friend was great guy.

Figured by now that a pre-rookie Jesus carpenter card would have been found in some attic or a grandfathers collection.

All cards depicting Jesus prior to the resurrection are considered "pre-rookie". Those printed during his time in the tomb should be noted as "XRC", and those immediate post resurrection are his "true rookies." Jesus Christ cards from then to today are cards of his active time. Tribute cards will not be issued 'til after the second coming.

I keep intending to get back in the hobby, but still 'clearing out' stuff so that it will be more affordable than last time. When I moved to Seattle 1.5 years ago, I sold virtually everything I had - if it didn't fit in my rented SUV, it didn't make the trip. My only current connection to the old hobby is David Rudd - we meet every week or so and he keeps me up-to-date on the hobby goings-on. I plan to hit another National soon - still one of the most fun times I ever experienced.
