The hammer price suggests two possibilities to me:

1.) Sniping mishap at the end (looking at the bids indicates such).
2.) It is on it's way to PSA very soon and will probably land in a 5 or 6 holder.
3.) Both

Do you buy 'A' cards with the intent to resubmit?

trae- it is a very crisp, super clean example (even tho it is trimmed)...many collectors collect cards just for their apperance, i'm surprised this didn't go higher.

FWIW- i personally do not pursue trimmed (or altered) cards.

"many collectors collect cards just for their appearance, i'm surprised this didn't go higher"

Mike,

I am one of those collectors, but this price still surprised me.

If this is normal, I will stick to the 10's and 20's with back damage then - same effect in my opinion.

Say this card was raw, but noted as trimmed, so the purchaser could easily submit to SGC and put into an 'A' holder - does the price still go this high? What's the difference, besides a grading fee?

Many motives possible, I suppose!

There is no way, anymore, of predicting what prices T206's will go for on ebay. The Chesbro is a really fine looking card.
The winner will most certainly crack it out and re-submit it. With 19 bids there were quite a few others thinking the same.
Therefore, with that in mind, the price it sold for is not unusual.

Here's a similar T206 lot....M. Brown (Chicago), Sovereign 350, PSA2. It also ended last nite and given it's condition, I was
hoping it would go for less than $100. It too, is a nice looking card and possibly undergraded. I needed it for an upgrade
in my all-Sovereign set. But, like your Chesbro example, I had to contend with a lot of bidders.

Anyhow, I won it......beating out several snipers in the last 7 secs. I paid considerably more than I wanted to; but, my
"manual-sniping-system" prevailed. This is the 8th time (out of 10 times) that my "system" has won for me.

Ted Z,

That's a nice looking card.. doesn't look like a 2..

When you say manual sniping system, do you mean the old fashioned way of looking at the computer screen and hitting bid at the last possible second?

No, that old fashioned way can't out-snipe the snipers. It's more complicated than that. But, nothing too exotic.
And, this win within 7 secs. of the end time is the best of the 8 wins I've had, so far.

I think to many cards are sent back as trimmed. These cards were not all the same size from the begining. Its a little short or its a little narrow, more times than not they were cut that way. Many times I buy groups of cards that are beat and they are many sizes. Its obvious they were not trimmed by thier condition. Look at all the angle cuts, did someone do them? Sizing is overdone IMO.

I think that is a great looking card and the winner should send it to PSA so it can get a bump to "A.5"

How did the Harris collection miss that card? Send it to PSA, they just might give it an 8.

Edited to add: It's a nice looking card. Nice side to side centering, great registration and color.

That Keeler portrait sure looks okay to me. I suspect there's a good chance the winner will cross it over to one of the other grading companies.

Or crack it open and resubmit it to SGC again.

The hammer price that was paid was a bargain, the buyer will have a chance to turn a $300 investment into many thousands because if the card grades and is a PSA 8, the card is extremely low pop and would be very valuable, at worse case, the card is certainly worth $300...I would have paid a lot more but I was too busy yelling at my daughter that night for not cleaning her room, very expensive lesson.

Possible trim with those sharp corners, but the borders are so fat. Beautiful card regardless. I do remember a post of extra-large bordered T206's - anyone have a scan? If this card didn't originate this way, it had to be of the large-bordered pedigree.
