Default August Buy/Sell/Trade thread

Posted By: Mark

Thought I would begin an August B/S/T thread, since things have been rather slow on this side, as of late.

I am offering a nice assortment of premium pennants... 6 of each team - Yankees and Tigers and Bears (Oh My!) Sorry- I couldn't resist.

Most pennants grade EX/MT or better, as I have been a condition stickler over the years. I would not normally be selling these off, but have over-extended a bit lately. None of these will go to Ebay, so this is your lone shot at them.

Possible discounts for buying multiples (make me an offer), and shipping is $8.95 regardless of how many pennants you buy. Because this is a lot to upload, I will divide it into 3 posts (1 per team). The Yankees Pennants grade/are priced as follows...

1950s Large Yankee Stadium (EX/MT) $85
1953 Yankees Champs (Rare with Fringe) (NRMT) $295
1937 World Series Champs (Extremely Rare) (EX+) $495
1940s Unusual Top Hat Variation (EX/MT) $135
1940s Very Rare "Yankies" Variation (MINT) $375
1940s Yankees Batter & Cloud (EX/MT) $175

Here are the 6 Tigers Pennants... some very rare ones here. They are graded/priced as follows...

1940 Tigers Purple Felt (AL Champs Year) (EX) $195
1940s Red Felt Tiger over Briggs Stadium (NRMT) $150
1937 Black Felt Tigers (Beautiful NRMT) $385
1940s Orange Felt Tigers Head (NRMT) $65
1940s Burgundy Felt Tiger over Briggs (EX+) $125
1940 Detroit Pennant Winners w/Scroll (Rare!) (NRMT) $485

Potential discounts if you want multiples (make offer). I can combine any of the 18 Pennants being listed here...

Saved the best for last. Here are the Cubs Pennants, graded and priced as follows...

1940s Red felt Cub leaning on "C" (EX/MT) $65
1930s Black Felt Standing Bear (Rare!) (EX/MT) $185
1940s Cub Batting in Wrigley (EX/MT) $125
1940s Unusual Cub Mascot w/Gothic Writing (EX/MT) $165
1930s Cub with Tree Trunk (Very Rare!) (EX+) $135
1920s Bear Cub Profile (Exceedingly Rare) (EX/MT) $995

Regarding the last Pennant... I paid Mastro $1,100 about a decade ago for this one. I have seen only two in 20 years of collecting pennants, and have priced it to sell at $995 (although it pained me to do so). A current moment of weakness, so claim it quickly if you are interested!

Thanks for your consideration, Mark

Making available one final Cubs Pennant. Another very seldom-seen full sized variation, this one is from the late 1930s and grades at least EX/MT+. I am selling it unframed, and the price is $390.

Mark,

Are you getting out of pennants altogether, or just narrowing your focus?

Mark,

Don't be afraid to bust out some of those Cleveland pennants you're hoarding.

Thanks in advance.

Jodi:
Neither! I am just thinning out at a time I have spent too mich money too fast. Since the available wall space is limited, a lot of these have been sitting in a covered bin, and don't ever see the light of day. So it seemed logical to target these pennants as the items to sell.

I know that Ebay would reach many more people than the B/S/T, but I am selling these for about what I paid through the years. Thus, I don't want to pay Ebay (and Paypal) their exhorbitant fees. And I cannot wait the 4-5 months it would take to be paid via Catalog Auction House. I don't really want to part with most of these either... just thought that if an avid collector here saw one they wanted, it could be a win-win.

Rob:
If I thought there was more than one you needed, I might list a few Indians. But I believe you have every Indians Pennant known to mankind (except for maybe one oversized version in which they did not even go by the nickname "Indians"). That one is staying with me for just a while longer!

I would add to Rob's comment that it is very uncool to have anything to do with the Pacific Northwest if you actually live there. Please offer those immediately

(Any chance you'll be heading up to Vancouver on the 23rd for our local SABR meeting? If free beer and hot dogs doesn't entice you, how about a chance to talk with Pat Thomas who was bat boy when Babe Ruth played a game here?)

Very sad to say I can't make it, Max. I replied and bumped your original thread, for any others that potentially can get there...

Thanks so much for the invite... next time for sure!

Well, my 16 year-old Daughter's car accident on Thursday has prompted me to sell some nice vintage equipment on Ebay. Here are a couple of rare bats I'm selling... including a beauty from the 1870s!

If interested, please check out under Ebay Seller I.D. "perezfan".

Thanks! Mark

Nobody got hurt, but she is very frazzled, and won't be driving for a while. Luckily, all is well

Good to hear that.

On another note I was at the postcard show yesterday and saw an interesting postcard which showed a bunch of fans in the grandstands of a game with pennants that said "Tigers vs Giants" on them with a baseball player. Now I know these teams never played against one another in a World Series, but I'm wondering if you've ever seen one of these pennants? And I'm also wondering if these two teams ever went on a barnstorming tour of some sort? The postcard was a rppc circa 1910.

Dan:

I think I actually have a pennant just like this. Will have to do some digging. I know I have a very similar Cubs/Athletics Pennant from an Exhibition Game in 1916. I will try to post the picture(s) later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks!

Dan...

I located the old Tigers vs. Giants Pennant! Mine was for an apparent exhibition game played on June 21, 1915. Something called "Overland Day" played at Swayne Field.

Interestingly, there was an "Overland Day" at Swayne Field the year before (on June 23, 1914). But this one involved the Cubs and Athletics. Below is the Pennant... check out those awesome and ancient mascots!

Edited, just to add that Swayne Field in Toledo, OH was home to the Minor League Mud Hens from 1909 to 1955.

You never cease to amaze Mark. Both of these pennants are beautiful. Are they 3/4 size?

You know what Mark, I think that may be the pennant that was in the postcard! That's unbelievable! Your collection must be tremendous!

Mike:
Yes, both pennants are 3/4 size. The Cubs/Athletics is about an inch longer, at 26".

Dan:
That's just amazing. If you can still locate that particular postcard, I would obviously be quite interested. I would happily pay you whatever it costs + whatever you'd need for the time and effort. But only if it's convenient (and only if you were planning to return on your own). Please don't make a special trip to the show just for this. Heck, I haven't a clue as to how often this show exhibits, or how far it is for you to travel. Just thought if you were returning in the future, it might still be there?? Thanks

Mark, this guy wanted $175 for the postcard. The show is twice a year in Omaha and I try to make it every time...if I can get him to go lower what would you be willing to pay for it? I don't think this guy sells many baseball postcards he has prices that are astronomical. On anonymous town team cards he is well over $100 each. He didn't make one sale the entire time I was looking through his cards (about 20-25 minutes).

Hey Guys,

I need to pay off a beer can, so am putting some stuff up for sale. Everything here is priced MUCH LESS than what I originally paid for it, but I just want to sell this stuff off fairly quickly. The Ted Williams Hartland statue is a beauty, great paint, but it does need a little tape under the base to keep Teddy Ballgame from tipping over. I've decided to sell off any cards I had.

Let me know if anyone has an interest at GSTheberge@yahoo.com

Of course, if anyone has any pre-1920 Red Sox stuff for trade, I can always make up some excuse to my wife .

Hartland Statue: $175

Pair of 1975 and 1986 World Series Press Pins: $70 for the PAIR

Pair of 1950s/60s Small Pennants: $50 for the PAIR

1904 Fan Craze Cards, all PSA Grade 8: $100 each card
1913 National Game Jake Stahl PSA 6: $75
1914 Polo Grounds Tris Speaker PSA 6: $100

1916 Boston Store Duffy Lewis SCG 70 (gorgeous card): $125
Ramly T204 Billy Carrigan SCG 40 (gorgeous card, small crease on corner): $125
T205 Eddie Cicotte SCG 60: $225

Carrigan: $100
Stahl: $50
Engle: $50

Lord: $18
Hooper (unbelievable condition): $150
Gardiner: $70

I'll have to figure out shipping on each, but shipping will be the exact shipping cost with no other attached fees.

Thanks!

Greg

Cards are all gone. Was like feeding time at the zoo last night with all the emails. Thanks everyone. Press pins have been sold.

The other stuff is still available.
