Default St. Louis Browns early pennant

Hello, new member here. I have a vintage St. Louis Browns pennant, and was trying to get some information on it. I found one of Joe Tinker on line with a similar pose. The size is 14x34 The person I got it from, found it in a trunk that she was given, by a 93 year old neighbor in 1967.

It's not really Joe Tinker, but a generic image that was used on many pennants of the era. One such example, currently in Heritage....

Still a great piece, and a real gem you have there. Not many oversized Browns Pennants of that era have surfaced, and yours appears to be in pretty nice shape, despite the stain on the spine. Can't quite see the tip, as it is obscured by the black background. But needless to say, It's a keeper!

I think this is the first place it turned up. It also appeared on a postcard about the same time.

That second Browns Pennant that you posted is fantastic as well. It is part of a rare series, circa 1951. There have been a few threads here, regarding this terrific series of pennants.

Mine are stashed away for the most part, but I know Greg M has most of this set, and can possibly post some pics of the other teams (from his great collection). My pics would come out sideways, anyway.

I think Greg and I are both missing the Cardinals version, but possibly have all the rest. For the record, I believe your Browns version to be the second rarest within the entire set... second only to the Cardinals. Cool graphics, and a truly rare piece!

Is this the same series, Mark?

Yup... that's it!

Unmistakable graphics with that unique font, the large Team Mascot, and the smaller "vignette" towards the end of the pennant. That black version is an absolute beauty, Rob!

Here are pennants from the '51 series. Note which teams are missing. So new member BigNoff could probably hold me up (name his price) if he wanted ...

Wow Greg, that display is totally awesome. I'm one of those guys that goes to the flea markets, junk stores, and wherever I can find stuff. The dealers are always asking me if I would sell what I found, and my reply is not now, maybe some year.

The SF Giants later used the Giant but without the "vignette." It is a VERY scarce SF pennant.

I agree, they are among my favorite. Really hard to gauge value in my opinion. The Browns pennant would probably fetch the most along with Dodgers, Phillies, Athletics, and Red Sox (both versions). Actually, the one Red Sox version might top them all. But that's a wild guess. There aren't enough of these pennants out there, nor enough pennant collectors, to have a good source of data on which to base approximate values.

You know how it is, all it takes are two bidders and ka-boom. Or if there is just one interested bidder ... pfffft. I know there's a price guide out there, and it is nice for all the pictures but the listed values for many are often wild guesses (I mean that respectfully ... I wouldn't be any better throwing out numbers.) You could see a pennant that has only been seen once, i.e. one known example in circulation, and the listed value is merely what it went for in one auction. Or maybe it was something in someone's collection with no sale information, and the listed price is just a guess.

Anyway, if the whole series was auctioned on eBay? As a lot in good condition? I'd guess $2,000 plus or minus a grand. But again, who the heck knows!
