in almost every instance the total worth of a set is the sum of its parts. sweat equity doesnt equate to an extra bump in the price no matter how long it took to put the set together. that's why these sets usually end up being broken apart. people don't care how much time you put into putting it together. that was your non financial investment. they look at a price guide and rarity and go from there. whether you had to climb a himilayan mountain to find the cards in the first place doesnt matter to them because they are here now and not on the mountain top anymore.

This set is different. This set is actually worth more than the sum of it's parts. It would be virtually impossible to assemble it from scratch today without one of the other 2-3 very large collections of them coming to market.....and the 3 I know of won't be. This set will not be sold for what each card would bring at auction. It will sell based on what it is and stands for.

"[A]lmost" is the key word here. For extremely difficult sets, a premium is attached to the value. The seller can basically say, "Take it or leave it." It is not going to be found anywhere else.

Yeah - that line would have a lot more force if it wasn't trotted out by weekend warriors referring to '68 Mantles with rounded corners, creases, and HI Beckett pricetags...LOL!

Seriously though, this E107 set is one of those (properly) rare cases where the line quoted above has real meaning.

I doubt this set will ever have more value broken apart. I'm assuming it will always remain together minus a few possible upgrades.
