Default Pops - Slightly Off-Topic

Today, my Pa would have been 82 years young. (Leon - THAT makes him pre-War and fitting to this page, hopefully!) He has been gone a year...

I had NEVER seen this photo of him playing for his Church League before this week.

Like most of us, he was just a "pretty good" local ballplayer. He lived vicariously through The Mick & Yogi. But he had more important things to do like raise us 4 kids.

Like I said, he was was a pretty good ballplayer, but he was a GREAT Dad!

Anyone else got any pix of their Pa from his "playing days"?

You looked at mine, I will look at yours!

Thanks for sharing - that's great that you were able to discover the picture of your dad's team!

I wish I had a photo of my dad from his youth as a baseball player. I am fortunate to still have him with me - he'll be 84 next month. I will share a related photo, as I've been lucky enough to have begun a tradition a few years ago of attending Red Sox Opening Day with my dad and my (now) 6 year old son. Hopefully I can keep this tradition going for a while more with both of them.

I don't have one of my dad, but he isn't pre-war anyway. I have this scrap of a photo of my great-grandfather from his minor league stint during the Great Depression.

Sorry to learn of your dad's passing, Greg. I remember you and him visiting Gary's store back in the day. RIP.

Hey Eddie:

Thanks for the wishes! It's for the best as my Pa had "unfixable issues." We have fond memories and shared experiences with you and Nuch, et. al. My Pa didn't collect anything in particular, but he collected EVERYTHING! He LOVED "The Chase" - even if he didn't always know what he was buying!

Thanks to all who have viewed this as well - I'm a bit surprised that there aren't more pictures!

I lost my dad almost 4 years ago now. I don't have any photos of him when he played as a kid, but I do have the jersey that he wore. We found it wrapped around some old 78 records when we cleaned out my grandparents house. I will try to get a picture of it.

My dad died last year, and he would show and joke about his "prized" downhill skiing medals from the 1950s. One was a 4th place (out of four entrants) and the other with a 5th place (out of 5 entrants). For the 5th place one, he said he missed a gate and had to climb back up and go through the gate-- as you had to finish the race to get the medal.
