Default The Babe on the Today Show

The REA Babe Ruth card was on the Today Show this morning. Definitely looks a bit different than the REA scan

A reminder of the appeal of Babe "Squatty" Ruth.

Crossing over into mainstream America now, just as the SGC 9.5 Mantle did in 2022.

Uh, I hate to be the first to say this... but how does that get a "3"? Crease(s), missing coloring and a "3"? What gives?

If I send a card in like that, I bet it gets a "1.5". Am I the only one that sees this? Watch the video. The card is shown at a certain angle and it appears to have a bit of a crease.

Cool card for sure, but SGC is looking a bit silly on this one.

From the other thread about this card someone posted that it is possible it was graded many years ago by SGC and was recently re-slabbed.

SGC Does not care they will tout/market this as them having the highest recorded baseball card sale.

I will say to me the grade does not matter..it would make a record regardless...I will agree with you...it's over graded but it's a special card so...idk standards don't matter for the impact it has on their business and this card. Card will sell and set record itself.

Good to get advertising liking this to the masses as it can add new collectors, new money, new friends to make on forums like this and at shows

John,

To me this reflects poorly on the grading company because people that understand condition of cards will look at this as a joke. If TPGs are looking at being recognized, that's not a good way to go about doing so (IMHO).

Edited to add - the significance of the card itself should be sufficient. Poor "subjectivity" in grading doesn't hurt the card, however the TPG may look a bit silly.

Definitely the same card. TV distorts things. I’ve been on TV a bunch of times and I always look fatter than I really am.

Did this card originally have square, or rounded corners?

Here is a photo posted on the REA thread showing a display of cards from this issue. It looks like these cards were produced with pointy corners.
