Default 19th century baseball cards of Joe Quinn

Posted By: David Hanvey

Joe Quinn was the first Aussie to play in MLB. His career started in 1884, and was the only Aussie to play MLB until 1986.

Here is some info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Quinn_(second_baseman)

I checked VCP and noticed he has 8 cards in the N172 set, 2 N173's and some cartoon looking N526. Only 2 N172 cards have sales recorded according to VCP.

The question I have is would anyone know if I had a chance at getting my hands on one of these, and if so, would I have to take out a second mortgage to do so ? I don't know a lot about the N172's and see them sell for all different amounts on ebay and in the auction houses.

Thanks. I actually decided to check straight after posting the message and saw that. I have checked on and off for a little while now and haven't seen anything.

Any idea on what something like this would go for ?

David,

I'm the seller of the card... I'm guessing it will end somewhere between $150 and $300

Its a hard card to come by... and its a Boston card.

Eric

Joe,

It would be nice if you put up bigger scans of the OJ's so I can properly catalog them on VCP. With so many variations it is sometimes really hard to see what it is exactly on the cards you list for sale.

Thanks,

Bobby

Hey Eric,

What do we always say about "outing" cards on the bull board... oh, it's yours... well, that's one more bidder to go against...

David,

The Quinn cards aren't that difficult. I've seen a few of them on ebay over the years. You can even find them in the auction house offerings. More than anything, you just have to be patient. It's better you're going after this Quinn than Tom Quinn because there are a lot of Baltimore collectors that go after anything and everything that is Baltimore related.

There are five total poses of Joe Quinn issued over 1888 & 1889. He can be found with Des Moine (tougher) and Boston (easy). Two of the poses were issued in cabinet form. Finding a single pose is not difficult at all (relative to the average Old Judge subject).

Eric, you can use the term "difficult" the day you decide to sell your California League card wink.gif

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

Default Does anybody have any other images ?

I thought I would bump this thread.

Does anybody have pictures of the Quinn N174 and N173 images ?

I could only find the 2 N174's and 1 N173 on VCP. According to VCP there are 7 N174 poses and 3 N173 poses.

David--I'd suggest you pick up a copy of our Old Judge book. All the Quinn images that are known are pictured in there.
