Default Do these two cards look off to you?

So the flip on the Gehrig and Reggie looks off to me.

When you look at the flip under a loupe it is laser printed (yellow dots throughout), and the actual 'red' is yellow lines overlayed with red lines. The font looks off and I just want to get some more opinions. I really lean towards no good.

Also the barcode isn't straight, under a loupe the small bars look like spiked bars on the left side.

I have included my two Cobbs that are freshly graded for comparison. I really just want to get some opinions.

I also checked VCP, this Gehrig is identical to the SGC authentic that sold via BMW cards 1/6/13.

This is bad... The forgers are finding new methods...

I scanned them at 1200 DPI...

Default flips

Sean,
do you physically have those cards in your hand?

The flips look to be photoshopped on to me. The horizontal lines to the left and right of the bottom of the area where the flips are look like extra plastic or a photoshop stamp. If you look about 4:00 from the last number in the serial number, you'll see what I'm talking about. It appears on both cards, but not on your cards.

Yes, working on getting a refund. I'm 100% sure these are fake after speaking to BMW about the card he sold.

Edit - This is my scan of the 4 cards in hand at 1200 DPI

The flip for the Reggie has a few things that don't look right to me:

The "P" in Topps looks different than is shown in your Cobb cards.
The "R" in Reggie has the same issue - slightly different font.
The first digit of the serial number is misaligned.

Sorry to hear that someone sent these to you. Best of luck with the refund.

While I agree the plastic holders look "off" and I believe they are fake, the bigger question in my mind is are the cards in the holders real? If they aren't, the forgers are getting better all the time.

I spoke with Brian from BMW, this does not match either of the Gehrigs he sold as authentics (it was close/same from VCP image). The card is still authentic, but definitely altered.

We need a third party grading service to authenticate slabs and flips.

Isn't there something like that for coins?

Someone might as well start it for cards... Maybe I can add it as a feature on my website

At this point things are being replicated so well that sellers have issues at every corner with a broad range of cards...

Thanks, David.

Each of the cards on the left in your scans seem to lack the detail of their counterparts on the right. My bet would be that a good loupe would also show a significantly different dot pattern too. Would be an interesting comparison.

Highest regards, guys,

Larry

Both cards are 100% authentic, very probably altered (trimmed). The holders are authentic. The flips are not authentic.

Lol yea, then we will need a third party service to authenticate the authentication of the slab.

Default Gehrig

The Gehrig flip looks off on both Gehrigs. PSA was using a different font in the early days of the low number PSA serial numbers. It's possible the Gehrig on the right is a re-holder but the one on the left looks off to me.
