I live in Canada and have submitted occasionally without any problem, although not in the past couple of years. I think PSA attaches something to the Customs label that indicates the contents are being returned to their owner.

if there is no rush to be graded, you should wait until the National. The National is in Chicago in August. You can have your cards graded on site within about an hour or two.

About 20 to 35 bucks for regular cards. 50 to 250 for valuable cards, depending on the card.

This way, no custom fee and your card can't get lost in the mail

Default PSA shipment

I got hit a few times at the border with customs charges on PSA shipments. Now, I send all of my cards through Platinum Promotions in Canada and there is no custom charges.

GST/HST will apply at the border. If the value of the service is under $20, there will be no tax collected. However, in practice, Customs often does not collect GST/HST on many items even up to $500 in value for duty. It depends on the discretion. There is an additional charge assessed by Canada Post (it used to be $5, but I think it has increased)

As well, the CRA also collects PST for those provinces who still have a use tax.

There is no duty other than the GST/HST or PST.

If you have it resupplied by a Canadian vendor, they will charge you the GST/HST, so you are in an equivalent treatment having the Canadian company provide the service domestically.

PSA should be indicating the value of the services performed, not simply that the card is being returned to the owner.

There is no GST/HST on the "increased" value of the card due to it being graded, as if PSA had graded your card in Canada only its service fee would have been subject to tax.

OK thanks a lot for your answer. I think the best will be to go to the Nats.

It will only be 5% in Alberta. As I mentioned, many times the CBSA does not even collect the duty, even assuming the correct value for duty is put on the customs declaration by the seller/service provider.

I put in a pretty large (for me) order with PSA late in 2012. I found a card show here in Canada where PSA was collecting submissions. Brought the cards to them and filled in the PSA paperwork at their booth at the show. So no charge to get the cards to California. (I paid the return shipping and insurance).

I asked them about customs, taxes, etc, and they assured me everything would be fine.

They processed my order quickly, shipped it back to me promptly (in 2 separate packages because of the service levels), and - true to their word - there was no border problem at all...no fees assessed at all...both packages were clearly and properly marked as return of owner's goods.

Total value of the cards was about $10K, I believe.

Cheers,
Blair

If I only had $1 for every client who told me that.
