I heard there are about 40 total T206 Wagners. I know it is not his rarest card, just his most valuable.

It can be deceptive. While T206 Honus Wagners are only sold publicly a few times a year, the auction of a Wagner is always a headliner-- so it can seem they are being sold left and right.

The number of times a card is sold, or seems to have been sold, is not always a reliable reflection of population, at least relative to other cards. There are in vogue cards that are auctioned regularly that are no less rare than cards that you never see for sale.
