Default NFL Programs Question

I have a question about programs. I have collected some vintage football programs, but not many from 1970 to the present. I am noticing a ton of them have the same covers, insides, and ads. Obviously, one company (the NFL itself?) did all of these. When did this start? Are any teams exempt? Do the more modern programs have any value, or are they diminished since they are so generic? Thanks for your input in advance.

If I had to guess I'd say this is a universal cost saving move, both in the pros and college. Same covers, advertising, articles.... If you only make it once (and change only the center roster page) you save money.
Recently some colleges have chosen to eliminate paper programs altogether (for the environment) and provide you with a link to a digital program for the day's game. Not sure the pros will ever follow this path though.
