Default Yellow Brown S.C. 460 f. #30 Printer's Scrap- sister sheet/ stain correlation?

Hello All!

As you know I'm obsessed with T206 Printer's scraps.....the "alternative" T206....so rare and beautiful, even the most beat up examples become "more beautiful" ironically......

Anyway, thanks to fellow board members in a trade, I acquired another beauty... A T206 Mcintyre Yellow/brown scrap ....actually, the only possible FRONT/BACK combo 1 of 1!!!..... MCINTYRE is NOT possible with the FACT #30 SWEET CAP BACK series 460....THIS one does because it missed the OVERSTRIKE and was a never complete ........ I will post in a minute....

nevermind being so rare, there are a few sweet cap y/b F. #30's scraps out there with clean examples of the back and front and not stained on the front....then there are a few that are beat up a little, and have a type of "coffee" stain" or "soda" stain on front.....some of these scraps with the "stain" and beat up a little have penciled in on the back "25" and "30"....

the story / rumor is a dealer had some of these y/b scraps and was selling them in the 70's .....he had marked them with the prices on the backs "25" and "30" "dollars".......the stained fronts are a mystery.....

my theory- a few (2 or 3) printer scrap sheets sc f. #30 SURVIVED....one sheet was "peeled" off the floor where some spilled a cup of jo on them/ for garbage.....???

I guess we will never know.....

I'm posting a link of a current ebay auction with a "sister Stained SC f. #30 460 y/b)

I also have a street with the similar stain/damaged backs....

PLEASE POST IF YOU OWN ONE!!! THEY WERE ALL SISTER CARDS RECEIVING THE DAMAGE AT THE SAME TIME ON THE SHEET....

Johnny, the guy who gave that one up, must've got a killer card in return.

Here's my lone y/b now. Has the stain AND the "25" on the back.

Or maybe the guys in the factory used a "discarded sheet" as sort of a giant coaster on their desk/workbench??? It could have been there for long enough that someone eventually decided to take it home as a memento of their time working at the factory!!

Probably no basis in fact, but that's the story I'd go with. It sounds much more romantic than the sheet being picked out of the trash

I believe one sheet of 34 were saved, this is a regularly seen group that are always together in the 460 series backs
Out of the group of 34, 33 have been found as a y/b, most with 2-3 known examples which fits the 3-4 stacked card theory.

To me the stains look like water stains.

That also makes sense with the level of damage on the stained ones.

And the Mathewson with the scorched edge I think is another clue.
I forget who it was, but I once asked about the large number of EPDGs I've seen with similar scorch marks. The answer was that one of the early dealers had had a fire at his shop and many of the cards got slightly scorched.

Maybe he was the one that had a stack of the Y-Gs?

Chris- Since you're the one for putting together scans, do any of the irregular ones seem to fit? Or stains that match up? That might get us a long long way towards knowing at least one sheet layout.

Default Match Ups

Do the 2nd Doyle Batting from left and the Reulbach match up? The wavy borders seem like they might go together...

Several have been trimmed, tough to align them based on cuts but the creases might connect. I think some were glued in a book, hence the stains and damaged backs and the others are mostly in VG/EX condition.

you are correct!(unless dan has triplets)

show the backs!! I want to see which ones have the "stained" front and rough backs....they may have been in a "fire" at one time.........my matty sure looks like it was, and Steve 's theory was very logical......

And I found a bonus oddity in that pic.

the middle one has slightly different art from the other two.
A quick check shows the difference shows up on the production cards too.

I'll wait a bit before posting the difference. A good chance to sharpen your eyes, or if you're just a "where's Waldo" fan. (There's two differences that I can spot, maybe more. One is pretty easy the other not so easy.)

What is the design change? I used to own this card before Jamie, didn't notice anything different.

Edited: Wrinkles on neck?

Interesting.....

The animation shows they're yellow/brown/black and maybe red not just yellow/brown.

On one the black is printed a bit higher which might account for what I saw.

On the hat, the rearmost line on normal ones curves right up to the crown, but doesn't ever connect. The other it seemed to connect well before the crown. There's a couple on Ebay that show that too.

The other change I saw was the triangle of collar at the back of the neck being smaller.

Both could be from registration between brown and black. (The moving hand too)

I totally missed the neck wrinkles. Those aren't from bad registration. And all the ones on Ebay have them.

They are indeed yellow, brown, black and red. The Cobb y/b has a very bold red background.
