It's crunch time. Last year about now there was some fervor about the Twins' playoff hopes. The situation looks about the same now as it did then, except we have to get past the Sox first. Keep the baby, faith!!

I am crossing my fingers for a chicago series, but would almost prefer Red Sox v. Cub World series---how great would that be?

We used to be the "Lastros", but name changed due to frequent stomping in play-offs by Braves. We are way,way overdue.

...but if we have to lose to someone, I don't mind the Cubs. I agree that a Cubs/Red Sox World Series would be fantastic.

That means the odds are with the Twins, the odds would even be with the Tigers. They even won one against the Twins this year after losing 16 in a row.

The Twins happened to play the Yanks when they were hot this year. Those old guys now have a full season under there belt and will run out of gas. We can only hope that Milton is ready to fill a staarting spot.

While I have alot of respect for the Bombers and they are one of my 3 favorite teams, I have absolutely no fear and of them and no doubt that the Twins can take them out. Remember the vaunted A's last year--their three stud starters are better than any three the Yanks can put out there, and they went down.

No Phillies fans out there? Not even a Marlins fan (they're neck and neck with Philly)?

Got to have the Phillies go to the Series. Maybe Bud Selig will let Pete Rose participate in a tribute to the 1980 Phils and we can all restart the "reinstate Pete Rose" discussions. We need Rose to help the TV ratings when "small market" Philly is playing Oakland or Minnesota or Kansas City in the World Series (i.e., no "large market" team like NY or Boston or Chicago).

If not the Phillies, then someone other than the Yankees (or else let them get hammered by some underdog NL team).

That "cream-puff" schedule the Twins have remaining is the same "cream-puff" schedule Chicago and KC had this year. The Twins were able to put away some of the upper tier teams that the Sox and Royals couldn't. They all play the same schedule during the year.

Thanks to Lee for taking me down memory lane with the Twins song, except now it's stuck in my head.

After last night's loss I'm giving my concession speech. With seven games left against Chicago there was still a glimmer of hope. But no....the big talking White Sox had to fold up. Now the Twinkies can walk away with it while the Royals and Chicago duke it out with each other. I'll now throw my hat in the small market corner....Go Twins!

The magic number is now 7 after the sweep of the White Sox, no contest, they threw there best at us and were swept. With 7 of our last 9 games against the Tigers it's only a matter of days, hopefully Tuesday when I'm at the Game. . Then soon after that the playoffs!!!!!!!!

Sorry Whitey fans not this time.

I have to second what Lee said. I think the White Sox have lost their chance. Oh well, riding the subway isn't that much fun in Chicago anyway.

Besides, a Cubs vs. Red Sox series is really starting to sound like fun.

The Twins have 2 of the top 10 "deep-fly" pitching specialists: Radke is 2nd in the AL (HR's allowed) with 32, and Lohse is 10th with 26. Radke's era is 4.67,Lohse's 4.73, so I guess letting the batter smack it deep has somewhat adverse effects on your ERA.

Although these two Twin "Aces" are both winning now, I think the Twins may need to find a "pop-up to the infield" pitcher come play-off time...BTW, both of these guys are a little weak in the K department

If you noticed the game last night the game finished with a Pop-in-the-Infield.

The 3 starters Radke, Santana, and Lohse are a combined 21-3 since the All-Star break. They are on a roll and ready for the playoffs. We don't even have to throw out Rick Reed. Bring on the Yanks.

More pop ups to the Infield!!!!!!!

Bill James you need to start posting this stat.

Living in Chicago and not being a Cub or Sox fan, I have to say I would rather see the Cubs get in the playoffs before the Sox this year due to the fact the Sox appear to not have any desire to be playing in October. Watching them play the last series against the Twins was pathetic. " The Big Skirt" Frank Thomas hasn't had a big hit all September, Robbie Alomar and Carl Everett appear to be sleeping, and Jerry Manuel should have been fired right after the Yankee series for saving Buehrle for the TIGERS because " we had already won the series". Terrible. Give credit to the Twins who seem to turn it on when they have to and overachieving every year.

But as for the As (5 games in front), there've been just too many times when they get into the post season and fold.

(course, I'm an As fan...)

There are a lot of teams still in it that would be fun to watch, and any Series involving the Cubs, Red Sox or White Sox would be overdue (or the Astros, but that won't happen). I wouldn't even mind seeing the Braves get another shot at the hated Yankmes.

But please, no Twinkies! Too many Twins fans on this board

Eric the Red Milton back off a season long injury picked up his first win of the season, pitching 7 shutout innings and giving up only 2 hits. Right now the Twins' starting pitching staff of Radke/Santana/Lohse/Milton/Rogers is as good as any in the AL. The Twins have overcome a long June slumber and some pretty questionable managing to get hot at the right time.
"We're gonna win Twins, We're gonna score, We're gonna win Twins, Watch that baseball soar, Crack out a home run, Shout a hip hooray, Cheer for the Minnesota Twins today!" (1961 version).

Bob your version of the Twins song is probably right, I never could quite figure out the "right the hit parade", it may be right and it may be wrong but the words fit.

Magic # is 6.

Here's to the Twins winning the Central

Just to spite Scott. :-D

the World Series," he says "The New York Yankees." That';s WHEN I ask him. I did, and he did this year.

The As have been playing Seattle as if they had no talent and were very badly coached. EMBARASSING!

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR LEE,AS THE TWINS DON'T HAVE A GOOD TRACK RECORD AGAINST THE YANKEES...........YOUR BEST WISH IS FOR THE MARINERS TO WIN THE WILD CARD. STADIUM WISE AND BEING NOSTALGIC THE CUBS RED SOX WOULD BE THE PERFECT MATCH UP. BUT AS A RED SOX HATER I CANNOT SUPPORT THAT AND AS FAR AS THE NATIONAL LEAGUE GOES( NOTHING AGAINST THE CUBBIES) I WOUDS LIKE TO SEE THE ASTROS MAKE IT...............PLEASE NO MORE TOMAHAWK CHOPS............REGARDS BROOKS

The A's are going to the Series - no other team has the starting pitching to stay with them, or the heart to overcome their lack of starting pitching.

(...but I'm always wrong, so bet heavily against the A's)

Twins aren't a bad team but their record against the Yankees is horrible. I see the Yankees sweeping the Twins and then losing in six to the BoSox. National League winner will be the Braves who will be swept by the BoSox. THE CURSE OF THER BABE IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott- Mulder is out for the year, Zito is barely at .500 and before his last start was horrible the last 10 games he started. Hardin showed he is a rook and has been inconsistent. The two best pitching staffs in the AL are the Yanks with Clemens, Mussina, Contrerras, Petit and Wells and the Twins with Santana, Radke, Milton, Lohse and Rogers.
The Twins have the best record in all of baseball since the All-Star break and have won when they had to, including 5 straight against the White Sox when the season was on the line. The Yanks couldn't do that. Besides, the Twins OWN the A's this year. The A's are lucky the Mariners folded and they didn't get the Twins to start the playoffs.
MINNESOTA TWINS AL CENTRAL CHAMPS 2002 and 2003.

My Astros finally won! Just beat the Giants with 2 in the 7th, 2-1. Wagner came in and whiffed Bonds with several 100 mph fastballs. Thrilling finish!

You all might be right about the Twins - there are just too many of you! I'm still going with the A's and the Braves, but hoping for Astros and Red Sox (or Cubs and Red Sox).

remember my e-mail yesterday about the TWins!

hee hee!

you guys don't discount the Giants out! yes, they do not perform all that well in play offs of late but they will want to win it bad out of respect for Bobby! And of course the A's with their lousy team batting average that seems to get hits when it really counts with super low ERA pitchers behind it seem to have the chemistry for october magic!

but at last.......I have to go along with Baby Eddie Munster. I love the Braves and will bet on them through some of the playoff games. Especially if it looks like Shmoltz is on his game when he comes back.

The boys from Boston are out for blood! Win, lose, or lose in the final minutes of a crucial playoff or World Series game, I have to put all my faith in the Sox, as I do every year. They always keep me at the edge of my seat. Any team that can come as close as they have, as many times as they have, only to crash and burn in the final moments as they have and then come back every year with their heads held high, has got to be admired. Besides, watching the Yankees make the Series every year is starting to get redundant. It's becoming a chore just to watch them, like taking out the trash or doing my taxes.

How about a Twins-Giants series? The World Series played in the best and worst parks in all of baseball.
