So you wouldn't ever make an off-ebay offer for something you really wanted?

I've done it numerous times (not on this one). Sometimes I've offered way more than I eventually won the item for. Sometimes the buyer takes it, sometimes they don't. I don't fault anyone either way.

I did so, response was that many offers were received and the fairest way to go was to let the auction run.........

Sorry, I can't get outraged here at the seller because it appears that the source of your irritation is not that the seller terminated the auction to accept an offer but that he did not terminate the auction to accept your offer. What's the old saying, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?

Doesn't that make it a moot point then anyway since you would not have won the auction?

I'm really not upset at all, I was just simply looking forward to what the final price would have been if it all played out. I already have one and didn't really need the card anyway although a condition upgrade is always welcome.

LOL... this was the email the seller sent me when I emailed him asking why he had pulled it on me/us:

"I found out that it was listed incorrectly. I will be relisting it with the correct name. If you'd like me to let you know when it's relisted, I'd be happy to email you."

- timemachine1964

Just out of curiosity... what would FMV for this postcard be and do we know how they got the $11,000 Beauty's name wrong?

Default sorry Phil!

I should have let the auction play out as I'm certain that I overpaid but happy to have it. Seller originally turned down my initial offers and wanted to re-list as Rube Marquard and mention it being his "rookie," but I made an offer he couldn't pass up.

(not sure where the Charles name comes from )

Nice PC and seller is a liar as far as I can tell, from the comments above.

I don't know if he's a liar, he was going to cancel the auction and re-list before I convinced him to just sell me the card. All the offers he received made him aware that he had 1) something valuable and 2) a "pre-rookie" of a Hall of Famer, (guessing Phil gave him that term), two things he had no idea of before the offers came in.

Perhaps I should have made him an offer he couldn't refuse as well...very nice pick up. Yours and Phil's are the only two that I've ever seen (online only, of course).

When do you suppose we'll see another (if ever)?

If either of you ever decide that this card doesn't "fit" your collection, let me know!

Funny, I have posted my Marquard postcard several times before in threads involving unique/rare items with hardly a peep from anyone. I'd like to think that it simply got lost in the shuffle.......
