Hey guys, this was a card that I was offered a second chance offer on earlier. Just wanted to know what you all thought of it for around this price. The seller seems reputable and nice enough to deal with, but I know this card isn't vg+ like the title and description state. I'm afraid the nicks above the right eye and crease across the face would knock this down to a 1 if I tried to have it graded. Let me know what you think....

..but whether it's fair or poor, I don't know. Image is badly disturbed! Ever think of getting a Colgan's Chip for about the same price, in better shape? (Same image, black and white, though.)

A Colgan doesn't do you any good when you are working on a M116 set.

What about the price? I think we all agree the card is probably a one but how about the sellers offering price. Also, any chance you guys see of this card grading above a 1 or in SGC's case, a 10??

I think $350 is a decent price, but no "steal" by any means. If you bought it at that price and needed to sell later, I don't think you'd have a problem making it back. If you like the card, go for it!

This is one of them. If you don't mind it's appearance, I would say $275 tops - only because I think you could re-sell it for the same amount if you changed your mind.

I try to avoid cards with head/face problems. I just picked up the Ruth Headin' Home card on ebay. It has a smudge on his face. I paid $205 ( I think ).....as long as you can buy the card right until an upgrade comes along it is fine....in the long run you might want a nicer one....then again there are a lot of fine collectors that I know that like their cards "played with".....so ...buy it right and you are fine....$275-$350 wouldn't be too bad for that card....when a nice vg one might go for $1000 or more....good luck

Not sure what he is trying to get for it. Since the high bid was $375 and didn't hit reserve, it makes sense someone might have bid $400 plus for it. That's about $150 more than it is worth to me so I would pass (and yes I need the card and yes I am working on the M116 set)

I've bought several "wish" cards in lower grade with face damage and have ended up selling every last one. As long as the image is nice, I'll take some honest wear on the card.

Now, at $175, I'd do it just to have the card...

I'd probably agree with all of your comments actually. I'm the type of collector that would prefer lower to mid grade cards because that leaves more money for more cards! Plus, I think cards with wear in general are more attractive in a way. I don't know how to explain it, they just have more of a "collectible feel" to them I guess.

While I like some wear on cards, catastrophic flaws like hole punches, tears, trimming, magic marker, etc etc...are the types of things I try to steer clear of. I also hesitate when the players face is marred by nicks and creases or other things like that as that ruins a lot of the appeal of the card for me.

That being said, the seller offered it to me for $400. I think my gut instinct pretty much matched what everyone's been telling me here which has been mostly "get the card for way less than $400 if you get it". Thanks for the input guys, it's always appreciated and Happy Holidays to you all!

Personally, I would prefer to buy a card with some back damage or some creasing than that much corner and surface wear.

catastrophic flaws are really idiosyncratic. You have to see it and judge the aesthetics for yourself. I've seen some cards with small punch holes that presented better than cards several grades higher. Take this Wagner as an example. If the card had a small punch hole in the lower right corner but the image was unmarred and the card was otherwise in decent shape, I'd be more inclined to buy it. I recently bought a few cards like that, in fact, because there was just no way that I was going to spend the $$ needed to get these cards in nicer shape.
