Posted By: dennis

how come on the backs of some of the washington senators & ny giants cards they tell of the 1933 season?? #112 fred schute "got 7 hits in 5 games in 33 world series".#108 joe kuhel "in 1933 went over the 300 mark". #236 g.davis "one of the biggest factors in the attack of the ny giants in winning the world series from the wash. senators in 1933". how can this be? it would seem that these were made after the season was over???? baseball cards always come out b 4 the season begins. it would seem to me they were issueing these in 1934? Default 1933 goudey question???

The February 1988 issue of THE OLD JUDGE features an article by Tom Faith which covers the 1933 Goudey sheet layout and will answer your question in detail. You can purchase a copy of "THE OLD JUDGE- THE FIRST FOUR YEARS" by Lew Lipset. Available sometimes on Ebay, usually for under $20. The information inside will pay for itself many times over...

Default 1933 goudey question???

Posted By: HW

From what I can recall, the 239 card Goudey set was issued in 10 sheets of 24 cards with the #144 Ruth being double printed. The sheets were produced throughout the year in series which is why some cards make reference to the 1933 season.

One of the sheets is known as the World Series sheet and consisted of members of the Senators and the Giants. It was the last 1933 sheets produced by Goudey and was done shortly after the World Series.
