Default When (and Where) Do You Authenticate Photos?

I am new to photos and have two I am considering submitting to be authenticated. Neither has a stamp on the back but I think both are type 1s.

My questions:

1) When is it generally worthwhile to spend the $$ to have a photo authenticated?

2) Which company generally provides the best bang for your buck?

Thanks in advance.

PSA is the only way to go with photos. I would say around $500 value + would be a good starting point.

You can post good pictures here for opinion. Not the same as seeing photos in person, but one can often tell a lot if the picts are large and clear.

Thanks for the responses. This is the main one I am considering. I need a new scanner so the colors aren't spot on. The back has some faint album lines on it.
