Default 1911 C46 Imperial Tobacco Canadian Issue

Does anyone know the relative scarcity of the C46 Imperial set as compared to say T206? I do not see them for sale very often. Perhaps because this is a Canadian issue. Look forward to some replies.
Thanks

There was just a complete set of them that sold in Leland's auction this past Friday, and a bunch of them that closed on ebay last night.

There have been 246 cards graded by PSA. 103 of which have been graded 7
and above. SGC has graded 145 examples, only 18 of which have graded 84
and above.

Only 90 cards....but, it is a tough set to complete.

HOFers are Joe Kelley and "Iron Man" McGinnity
Chick Gandil is tough to find since the "Black Sox" collectors buy him.

Ray Demmitt (Montreal) and Bill O'Hara (Toronto) have a premium value
(more than these two cards deserve in this set), because of a "carry-
over" effect from their T206 variations.

O'Hara also carries a premium because he is card #1, ala Pafko, and is hard to find in nice condition. I built the set years ago and it wasn't particularly hard.

This set has quietly taken off in the past three years. In early 2004 I built most of it very quickly and cheaply, mostly on ebay. In fact I accumulated 75 of them, including Gandil, Kelley, and McGinnity, for about $1000 (average condition weak VG).

But they have since dried up dramatically and I've been stunned by the prices I'm seeing lately. The Leland's set went for about $6000 (well over $60 per card) including juice and it wasn't a super high grade set by any means.

I always thought of C46 as generally paralleling 1910-11 Obaks in scarcity and price but I think it has pulled a bit ahead of them.

Tim

As coincidence would have it I picked up one of these last night raw (VG or therabouts). I know little about the issue. Is there a writeup available on it somewhere? What league of it's day are these cards representing?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Email me if that works better.

It used to be that the cards in this set simply were not popular outside of the key 5 cards mentioned earlier. That leaves a lot of cards that no one seemed to want outside of a single copy for type card collectors.

If they are seldom offered, the next logical conclusion is that they are rare.

Where would you rate the rarity among similar eras (in the E96 range is my guess)

The value...For commons in VG would 30 dollars be in the right range?
What about the market for the 5 "bigger" cards?

Canadian brethren, it would also be easy to assume that these cards appear more frequently at Canadian card shows, auctions. Is that the case?

Thanks
