Default SGC Grading Question re: "Authentic"

Is it true that SGC would only grade a trimmed card as "Authentic", i.e. they wouldn't grade a trimmed card as a 10/1/Poor, 20/1.5/Fair, 30/2/Good, etc.? I don't have a ton of experience with TPG's yet and SGC in particular, so that is why I was wondering. TIA.

I believe that is correct.

That would be correct unless you are talking strip cards which may get a numerical grade

Thanks for clarifying. I should have added that I was curious in re: to T-205's/206's since I've been dabbling in those recently. Wonder why the strip cards get a numerical? I figured the TPG's would be pretty consistent regardless of issue, e.g. "T" cards, Bowman's, Topps, etc. Again ... I'm kinda' new to SGC and a little more familiar with PSA only because they have been around longer and I know about their qualifiers. For what its worth ... I really like the "T" cards in the SGC holders. They just look good in black :-)

"Authentic" cards are interesting to me because their appearance can range from atrocious to near pristine. Nice examples will do for me in an otherwise cost prohibitive issue.

That is so true! I've seen some real nice "T" cards that were graded Authentic, I guess because of being trimmed, or something I just can't see well in the scan.

You can always try PSA. They are well known for grading trimmed cards numerically.

Default W512s - SGC Graded

When it comes to strip cards, which are hand cut, they appear to do both. This is my W512 baseball subjects set, all SGC graded. When I was submitting these to SGC, they kept coming back 'A', even some of the sharp ones. Then I find a Frisch on eBay that had a numerical grade. So it seems they'll do both, but I'm not sure if there's any consistency.

The same can be said for PSA as well. When I was putting this set together, I saw PSA graded W512s with numerical grades as well as 'Authentic'.

Not intentionally, of course. I assume.
