Default Question About T206...Burns CHI AL

I got a Burns CHI AL T206 card. It varies in size to all my other T206s. It is slightly bigger. I have open T206 SGC & PSA holders lying around and this card will not fit into either of them. It is slighty too long/wide (by about an eighth on an inch...)

It is an Old Mill (black) back and the front has blue ink that has either bled from his jersey or is a "ghost image."

Has anyone ever had an authentic T206 that is the slightest bit bigger like this one that will not fit into a T206 SGC or PSA slot? Also, like I said, it has dark blue ink bled/scattered into the green background either from the Burns jersey or from a wet T206 lying on.

Everthing else about the card points to authentic. I really want to know because this is one of my favorites (his righty glove on the right hand: poor or silly?) and I want to possess an authentic version.

Trying not to spend the money to get it graded...Thanks for your help in advance.

A scan would help, but yes, there are oversize T206's. Does it look like it may have been hand cut?

Default Oversized T206

I picked up this T206 Willie Keeler years ago at an auction for $6.00 and thought it was a fake but would look good on my desk for display. It is pictured with a regular sized T 206. D.

It is probably more like 1/16th of an inch larger in either direction. Not is a much of a contrast as the Keeler you posted (maybe half-way in between or less - just enough so it won't fit in the holders - though in the SGC holder - it fits width wise.)

I will get a pic up....

The border are "plump" like a lot of the Doyle, J (AL) cards I have seen. It wasn't hand cut.

Thanks.

It is the "plump" white border that makes it bigger, the colored image is exactly the same size as my other cards.

T206's larger than the standard 2 and 5/8 inches x 1 and 7/16 inches certainly do exist. They're not particularly uncommon. Fewer drastic examples exist today than there were 20-30 years ago, because some enterprising scam artists realized that if they bought a jumbo T206 in VG condition with soft corners, they could transformer the card from VG to NM condition by trimming the card down.

A board member, I forget who, did an exhaustive study of T206 sizes maybe a year or two back and published his results here. Edited to add: I found one such study and linked it below. I think others may have done a similar survey.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/15365...359/T206+sizes

p.s. And yes, for anyone on the board who is new to T206's, the Keeler pictured above is a reprint.

Thanks Anthony S. The Keeler has a glossy finish. D.

Burns is one of those T206s (for whatever reason) that seems to occur from time to time with oversized dimensions. Here are two I used to own.

Piedmont backed

Old Mill backed

Something's not right with that Keeler (or not right with the settings on your scanner.) The print at the bottom of the card looks blue (should be brown) and the Polar Bear back also looks bluish.

My Burns also has an Old Mill back and it seems that a high % of Burns cards has the Old Mill back.
There are still a large number of oversized t206s but quite a few less than 20 years ago.

Burns glove is borrowed from a team member because he lost his in a bet...

The Keeler is a reprint.

A dead giveaway that a T206 is a reprint is when it's missing the Factory # on the back, as that Polar Bear is.

I have a Jake Stahl/Glove Shows that is a jumbo. Could these cards be
corner cards of the sheet perhaps?

Default Big T206

I picked this up today at a card show. This card is quite a bit longer than most T206s I've seen, but what caught my eye was the line on the back in the upper right corner.

Thanks, Jantz, for posting that. I don't recall seeing such a line before. Seems likely that the card was at the top edge and just didn't get a final trim...

Frank - I have never seen a line like this either on a t206 back and that is why I grabbed it at the show. I thought it was interesting.

So this is what I mean. "Plump" borders but the image is the exact same size.
Must be what has already been addressed...

And this Burns card is curved a little, while the two side-by-side lay flat (just emphasizing the difference in size.

Bad pic - but one can see the ink. It isn't dully smudged, more stamped on there. Maybe someone pen exploded on it years ago, but I think it is from
the jersey or another card.
