Default Wanted to introduce myself

Hi everyone - I'm a long-time collector of sports cards and antiques/toys.

Recently are started really focusing more on Pre WWII cards (mainly tobacco era) and getting out of the modern Auto's/GU's cards and antique toys. I still buy the new stuff when it comes to my favorite team but my main thing has turned into the old stuff. I just enjoy it more than anything else and it's fun looking for it because it's so hard to find.

I have been on Ebay for around 5 years and have perfect feedback and DSR's. I am a very fair and honest person and have been looking for an avenue to trade/buy/sell cards with people other than Ebay. Even when you go to card shows it usually seems that if you're lucky there will be 1 or 2 booths with the vintage stuff (Pre WWII).

I will post for awhile and get to know you guys before I use the Buy/Sell/Trade section. FYI - I'm a Detroit Tigers fan.

Thanks for listening. - Mario (My real name)

Welcome aboard Mario from a fellow Detroit collector. You'll find that Detroit is well represented with the timing of the major issues coinciding with Detroit success (1887 - World Champions, 1909 AL Champs, 1935 World Series Champions, etc.). My focus is on the 1887 team. Joe Maples and other Detroit collectors will likely also chime in.

Welcome!

Welcome.

If you're a fan of Jones, you need to get the audio cd's of Mr. Ritter's The Glory Of Their Times. Listening to pharmacist Jones will be a treat for you.

Welcome to the board, we need more Tiger fans. Really, the competition is fierce for Detroit cards. Joe G. forgot to tell you that Especially for the Oj cards that Joe G. and I try collecting. Cobb is heavily collected also.

Joe

Thanks Everyone!!! This place seems great. Anyone collect T206 era autographs?

I just started.

So far I have Sam Crawford, Davy Jones, Donie Bush, Rube Marquard, Fred Parent, Paddy Livingston, and Doc White.

Can anyone tell me any other T206 era autographs that are fairly cheap? I've been looking lately and it seems the players that lived longer are the least expensive (obviously). I'd like to accumulate some lesser value players before I start investing in hall of famers besides the two I own.

The Crawford was pretty expensive and the Marquard was actually really cheap for a HOFer.

I also recently bought an item I can't find any info on. It's a old thick cardboard Coca-Cola Detroit Tigers Hughie Jennings store sign. It measures around 8x10 and is from 1910 (it has a redemption offer with that year (date) on it. It looks like something that might have been hanging in a store window. I have only seen one similar to this one and it was the same sign but with Owen (Donie) Bush.

Will do. Don't know if I'll get around to it tonight, but check back tomorrow and it will be up. I can't believe I didn't find this place sooner. Looking around at some of these pics are amazing. This place is great.

And welcome from me too. Unfortunately most of those signs you mentioned are reproductions. There are some real ones but the large majority I have ever seen have been reprints. I inadvertently bought a reprint one time too.(very little money, but still )

I'm not positive, but almost certain it's legit. That's really not even my concern. I just want to know what it is. It was also purchased from a seller that I trust and have done business with for a long time.

Either way, I'll post it tomorrow sometime and you can tell me what you think about it. I'm pretty skeptical about purchases in general because I got burnt a few years back and learned my lesson (on some Babe Ruth strip cards). Live and learn.

That is what I was afraid of. From that scan I am about 99% sure it's a reproduction. As a matter of fact....it's the exact same type sign I bought as real and ended up selling as a repro as that is what it was.

Default Repro

Looks artificially aged. I seem to remember seeing a bunch of these in the early days of eBay. To be precise, not a repro but a larger "sign" created from smaller newspaper ads that I believe were the genesis of these Coke ads.
