Default Goodwin's latest Ty Cobb D304 Brunner's Bread

Posted By: Double-P-Enterprises

Goodwin & Co. has had three straight auctions that contained a D304 Brunner's Bread Ty Cobb. The last two were of course outstanding and set market records (PSA 5 @ $100K and PSA 8 @ $250K respectively). Although tonight's is only an SGC 10, it's decent looking. Anyone care to guess where it ends, it's pretty low from a comparative standpoint as of 8:00pm EST?

Please tell me this isn't yours, or a good friend of yours, consignment? It's a little unusual to post about an auction lot when it's still going and is closing in on the ending time.

All of the D304 Cobbys have gone for pretty big bucks lately...though this one is in less condition than the ones I remember off hand. regards

Decent looking? Yeah, perhaps for a card that just finished going through someone's small and then big intestines.

Good luck in your pursuit! I've had great success calling attention to items that I planned to bid on. Especially when I thought they were underpriced. Hope you'll let us know how it works out.

Just so happens the author of the thread happened to have purchased this card on ebay in 2007. Take a look at VCP. Tacky thread. Lower your prices on ebay, make a sale or two and you might not have to resort to behavior like this.

Rob, the way to ensure you get it at a cheap price is to call attention to the card BEFORE extended bidding goes into effect. This way you can generate as many bidders as possible for your card. Wait, what I just wrote only holds true in Bizarro World.

"it's pretty low from a comparative standpoint"

Really?

What about from the standpoint of the late 2007 VCP price?

I'd say it's pretty "high" from that comparative standpoint (and don't forget to factor in the Goodwin buyer's premium).

Wow. It's shakey enough to try to push your own item in an auction, but then to lie about when asked?

To answer the original question, looks to me like it's about $1000 too high already.

Leon,

Do you think I'd be tacky enough to try to sell this card on the FRONT page and not in the BST!!! happy.gif

Let me see, a PSA5 = $100K. A PSA8=$250K.

That would make that beautiful SGC10 worth at least $10K or so...

Actually, the card isn't for sale otherwise I'd have posted it in the BST or ebay happy.gif

EDITED TO ADD "or ebay"

Again, not my card. I have owned one but that was a long time ago and I can only wish I still had it in my collection. My question was more meant to get the opinions of not only price but what others felt about the appearance of the "10" and from what I hear, it can go either way depending on how much you want to own one. I myself prefer something with a bit more eye appeal and based on seeing the other one posted, there are certainly better lower grades out there. As far as calling attention to something I was bidding on, I don't see the relevance. Everyone knows the big auctions and no one is going to miss a D304 Cobb. They rarely come up and certainly get everyone's attention when they do. I decided not to place a bid and will keep saving for one. Possibly they will eventually cool off like a lot of other stuff has in the last few months.

"I have owned one but that was a long time ago."

Please stop assuming we're all stupid. You not only "have owned one", YOU HAVE OWNED THIS EXACT ONE! You purchased it last November.

And personally, I never refer to a year ago as "a long time ago."

"Again not my card".

I wouldn't think this would be a card you'd have forgot owning a year ago. It's the exact same card you bought on ebay last year. First pic is the one that sold on ebay..second pic is the one in Goodwin. happy.gif

The link in the eBay auction from November of 07 shows that you won this very card.

Next thing is that you'll be telling us that "ppgustafson" the ebay buyer in November, 2007 is not you.

Before you do be prepared to explain why the email address for Double-P-Enterprises is "ppgustafson@yahoo.com"

Just thought I'd save you further embarrassment.

he described it as being a nice 10, right then you know he is hawking his card. that is exactly like jeff l says a pos.! regardless of who and what it is. i think i have bought from this guy, what a shame, my trust went "poof" just like that. maybe we are being to harsh, he might have held onto bear stearns and aig a little to long..lol..he is just trying to re-coup some lost funds....could you imagine how desperate you have to be to make up a story like that to try and get guys to bid it up !!! pitiful doesnt even say it..........the consequences of trying to sneak this by this forum was a huge risk. the fallout is massive. guess he gave it a shot thinking the board was a bunch of jerks. talk about ruining a rep., if he even had one, if not he has one now....enjoy it double p, pitiful and pathetic..

And see, if willing to do this, then willing to shill bid on ebay. I mean, you do this to your "friends" on N54, you'd be willing to do it to unsuspected bidders on ebay. Incredible.

Just for the record, we do have a spot on our board in our highly visible BST section where it's perfectly acceptable to hawk your own cards in upcoming auctions -
it's the "Ebay/Vintage Card Auctions-VBC Forum B/S/T" page. It sounds as though if you had just simply placed your post here, you might have not come out of all this with a tarnished reputation. There isn't much worse than being viewed as dishonest in this industry and on this forum.

It would have been sad if someone shilled (or had a friend bid on) the card and realized they might get stuck buying their own card. The realization of having to fork out the money for the card would have hit that person right between the eyes.... It would really suck to have to buy back your own card and pay the SELLERS and BUYERS premium on it. It would be a funny type of self inflicted justice...

Well the card went for almost twice what he paid for it on ebay, and at the time he posted the thread it was nearly that amount. Not sure why he felt the need to do this, he had already made a profit..wasn't like he was losing money. He should have fessed up after being caught instead of another line of "it wasn't me, and I'm deciding now not to bid".

God knows......people have blatantly pimped their lots in auctions before here--overtly & not so overtly but, when caught, have the balls to fess up.

Yeah, that was sort of the message I was trying to convey. If he had just posted in the right location, he wouldn't have even had to lie, because it's perfectly acceptable to pimp your own cards in that location. He could have just hawked his card and been done with it instead of coming up with a cheesy way to draw attention to his card and then trying to lie in order to cover his tracks which in turn, caused people to turn against him. It just seems like he caused himself a lot of grief when there was a simple alternative sitting right there.

I know it's easy to pile on, but I'll give the seller the benefit of the doubt on a poor judgement call in this case. I believe I've had a couple of dealings with him on both the buying and selling end, and found the transactions to be smooth.

We all make mistakes, particularly in a crazy economic climate like this one.

Al-

But he was doing pretty well with this crazy economy before making the post. He bought the card for $1240 and it was just over $2100 I believe when he initiated this thread. Just doesn't make sense.
