Why no Love for this pre war issue?????

The T201 Mecca Double folders are rarely talked about on these boards....

they were the first cards to have stats on the back, and the first cards to incorporate a color lithograph onthe back....these oversized cards are very nice to look at and are not rare....

so why no love?

just curious..............

This is probably one of the easiest and cheapest early card sets to complete. It's great. Please don't draw any attention to it because I'd like to complete a few more sets.

I think that a lot of the player images were not as crisp and clear and did a poor job of depicting the player. It's not as bad as the e91 set but in my opinion if the images better represented the player then this set would be very popular.

I think it's a nice set and anyone interested in completing a T-card set has a great chance to complete it.

This is really a nice set to collect. The card size is the why no love answer. Guessing that the fold over feature may be another reason. Still for the money you would be hard pressed to find a better set than this to collect!

The cards are folded, that is a main reason. Another main reason is that two players are depicted on a card. Generally, with wide pens, R312s, and the like, cards with single subjects have higher prices than those of multiple subjects, generally (there are exceptions to that, such as that beautiful card of Mr. Mack and Lefty Grove, but they're both legitimate Hall of Famers).

I think size is an issue, but it is less of a reason than that fold and the multiple subject reasons. Trailing size would be the cigarette company, Mecca. They did other sports cards, and other cards, but this is their only baseball issue. I think that hurts them a tiny bit.

Scott- Dougherty/Lord is supposed to be tougher than the rest due to only being distributed from one factory, but I didn't find it any tougher than any other in the set.
My .02 is that we tend to talk about sets that are harder to assemble, and this one is pretty easy. As such someone isn't bound to be searching for years. You don't hear much on here about E95 either.

When I put the set together I came to the conclusion that the Cole/Kling was the most difficult card in the set.

According to Lipset it's Dougherty/Lord. That card only appears with one factory designation, as opposed to all the others that have 2 possible. He did write not to assume that it is twice as tough though, as it's not known if equal amounts of cards were distributed from each factory.
PSA's registry has given it a higher weighting than for other common players, for what that is worth.
I'm paraphrasing, since I don't have the book in front of me.

I have 2 of my favorites framed with the appropriate Mecca cigarette pack--
in my T206 room, and the 206s are proud of the company.

I felt the same way about the set about 8 months ago. I finished the set in PSA 4 & 5 in October. It was a very fun set to put together and pretty easy to obtain the cards.

too common, generic pictures, 1/2 a player on one side, etc.

ugly IMO

Only cool thing is if you line them up the backgrounds will match up.
