Gents:

I need advice. A LONG time ago I bought two PRO encapsulated T206s -- an 8.5 Cy Young Portrait and an 8.0 Black Cap Mathewson. I know I got scammed; no further comment needed. I just need to know what to do with them now. Try to sell them as is on eBay? They've already been submitted to PSA and returned without comment, and I'd obviously mention that. That'd bring the price down below the posting fee. Crack them out, and sell with appropriate provenance warning? Hardly better. Keep them as a constant reminder of how dumb I can be? I have too many other examples to need these. Bury them in the back yard with 30 years worth of dogs, cats, parakeets and hamsters? They'd desecrate the area.

Any better suggestions?

I know the auction house I work for, about two years ago sold a pair of high-profile cards that were ungraded and trimmed, we advertised them as such....and they did quite well. I would also submit them to SGC and at least get them graded Authentic and then sell them as such.

If they're simply trimmed, and still look very nice, I would send them to SGC and request an 'A' (Authentic) grade and then flip them on eBay. I've seen many A cards sell for a decent price.

Who knows, they may look so nice in SGC holders that you'll decide to keep them after all!

I would expect that if you get them graded SGC Authentic or PSA Authentic you would get a fair return for them on eBay. Many collectors who can't afford the high grade Goudey Ruths and T206s Mathewsons come out of the woodwork when a low end example comes to market. It's their chance to get the card. It sometimes surprises how well the low end versions of hobby favorites sell.

I would definitely crack them and send them to a legit grading company for an AUT designation....as a matter of fact crack them first, mark on the submission slip you will take AUT, and there is even a minute chance one might not be trimmed. I have seen a few lower grade PRO cards that weren't trimmed....(lower grade for them is about a 7)....they probably still have decent value just not as much as you paid.....As said many times before we have all made mistakes. Don't feel too bad....and best regards
