Default Baseball's Oldest Living Player is 110

The New York Times reports in this morning's paper that Silas Simmons, who played professionally for about fifteen years and was a member of the 1913 Homestead Grays, is still alive. Born Oct. 14, 1895, he will turn 111 next month. He is still alert and in good health. That means that Chet Hoff, the oldest major leaguer ever, is no longer the oldest professional player. Try and get a copy of the article, I am sure it is online.

Not sure if this link will work - I get the NYTimes headlines via email service and sometimes these links work, some not.

I noticed the article but haven't read it yet. I did read the blurb that he played in the equivalent of the Negro Leagues from about 1912 - 1929, and the first thing I wondered is why there are so few images of these players or this organization.

He is pictured on a postcard of the 1913 Grays, seated second from right with his arms crossed. I'm sure someone on the board has that postcard.

Does anyone have a list of major leaguers who lived to be 90 - 100 + years old ? that would be interesting to see.

If I am correct while Hoff lived to 107, no other major leaguer has ever reached 102. Can anyone confirm that?

I wonder what the oldest Football player would be... I bet the average length of age would vary a lot between Baseball and Football...

Amos Alonzo Stagg lived to 102. I don't know if he was the oldest.

For awhile Mike Kelly,a pitcher for the phillies in 1926, was the oldest living former ballplayer, that was until they found out he died 22 years earlier. So basically he lived until 102 also until they found out he wasnt playing dead
