Default Hobby terms that annoy you

All in fun, but a couple that bug me:

A recent one, "elite" centering.
An older one, "advanced collector."
Oh, and referring to a card as a "bad boy." WT&?

"Rare," when a card really isn't, such as when used by an eBay seller and there are a couple other examples of the same card listed on eBay.

'Rare'
'A Rarity'
'Very Rare'
All of the above used by a German seller of Olympic items on every single item he lists at overpriced starting bids and on items that I can find several other places.

"PSA (fill in the number) none higher" - I see this on Olympic tickets that may interest me, but all of the people that collect it do not give a rat's anus about the PSA tomb. Most that collect would find it annoying and see no reason to justify the overpricing based on what PSA has to say. Never mind that they would not like the plastic tomb.

'UNIQUE" - if you don't know what the word means then don't use it moron!!! It means there is ONE and only ONE of this item in existence in the world and you will not find another one. There is this British seller I see list two sets of cards for the 2016 Olympics and he calls the sets unique yet he has 28 listings for each set.

A little off my own topic, but I love the guys who access the internet to tell you they can't pay you yet because they are out of town/country and will take care of it when they get home.

Pack Fresh ! All cards are pack fresh at one time or another. Plus it messes up my ebay search under packs.

I've used most of the terms listed in this thread at one time or another, and for that I sincerely apologize.

L@@K! Your request may be deserving of attention, but it would be rare for you to receive forgiveness. My research indicates it would almost be unique. We may just have to put you against a wall and pelt you with pack fresh cards with razor sharp corners. The trauma may cause your eyes to pop, but hopefully you will be contrite. GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!!

I know it’s an eBay thing, but it irks me when “pre owned” shows up in an item description. Of course it’s pre owned, you doofus.

Apostrophes!!!! Not a hobby term, but they seem to be incorrectly embedded in many descriptions.

Rule 1: Do not use an apostrophe on a word that is simply plural.

Lot of Goudey's for sale

Listings which say a card is "centered " trying to convince prospective buyers that the card is well centered when it clearly isn't. Technically, I guess all cards are centered, some better than others.

Fighting a battle that's already lost here, but how about just "(OC)." If you need a qualifier to know the card's off-center, it's not really off-center. Just tell me what condition the actual cardboard is in, and show me a picture so I can see how the centering looks.

-“Invest”
-Item specifics or title/subtitle that all have “Mike Trout” or “PSA 10” in them so that I can’t actually filter a search for either
-And I have to agree with “centered” when they are clearly not. As a side note when a card is psa 10 and is clearly off center to the naked eye.

Now I have to repent as I have recently referred to my highest priced card as “this bad boy”(embarrassing). From one Peter to another...can you forgive me? Won’t happen again!

There's gonna be a problem the next time I see "Wagz" or "WaJo".

Is it just me or is anyone else starting to think that "razor sharp corners" means that the card was trimmed with a razor?

On another note when someone says a card is the nicest copy they have seen or handled I tend to think of a friend of mine that other mutual friends always say is the smartest person they know. I always think the same thing in both cases. You really need to get out more.

Similarly, the use of "known to the hobby" sometimes just "known." It may make sense with some rare items but I think it's often overused.

I can stomach all of those annoying terms. Sellers like to hype their items by giving them extra attention in an effort to make them stand out from the pack.

But the words "Never Get Cheated" might be the one phrase that I can't stand to see any longer. It is such complete crap, not to mention an outright lie. Especially in regard to the proven altered cards that are sent back to them (for them to self-review).

It's akin to Lance Armstrong giving himself a PED test or Coach's Corner authenticating an autographed Baseball. Their catchphrase should be changed to read........... "If and when you do get cheated, don't come crying to us".

I also struggle with calling current players' chopped up uniform pieces and bats "relics" or "artifacts". It's not like you dug up the tomb of King Tut or Julius Caesar.

They do have a better ring to them than the more accurate "vandalized laundry".

One further new piece of annoyance (thanks eBay for giving sellers new harassment tools) is being bombarded with "seller offered a 4% discount" PMs on every overpriced item I happen to watch. Got three of them today offering 4%, 4% and 6% discounts. Gee, thanks. 4% off 1000% overpriced is still ridiculous.

I think the one thing that drives me really nuts and is simply preying on the poorly informed is stating that your 9 OC is the “highest graded example in the world!” And you damn well know it’s not.

I love seeing this and noting there’s 211 7s and 82 8s, so no, you are not even close to the highest…you have a “creatively” graded 7.

That and how confusing the BCCG scale is for newbies, they should have an 11. Because your listed 10 on eBay is worth the plastic case only.

When sellers claim something like "there are only 10 copies in existence" because there are 10 cards in the PSA POP report. There's no regrading and 100% of cards are slabbed. Yep, that sounds right.
