Default RARE Vintage Astros Pennant Keezer any thoughts

Hi all!

I have the opportunity to purchase this very nice Houston Astros pennant. I cannot find a comparable one anywhere. This is a Keezer pennant with the Astronaut on the front. I'm guessing it to be very early Astros, I never even knew of this Astronaut logo or them. Please help me to identify and value this pennant. There are no holes, it is in great condition. Thanks or the help. I'm lost at this point as I can't find anything.

Great find! Probably the only known example, and it is indeed vintage. I did not realize Keezer even lasted into the mid sixties. Anyway, I've never seen this one in 25+ years of collecting, so it's a rare one. Perhaps a prototype that was never actually distributed.

We can only guess at a value, since there are no comparable exemplars. Astros pennants typically do not command a premium (as compared to other teams). But that's largely because there aren't many interesting variations to select from. The franchise came to be just prior to the mass-production of cheap polyester pennants. So examples like this are few and far between.

That said, I think it might be a $200 pennant. It's got "off the charts" condition and rarity. Probably worth more than $200 to a die-had Astros collector, but even at $200, it might be the highest price ever realized for an Astros Pennant. Just an educated guess... Hope it helps!

Nice find, Dan!

I wonder if that's the same pennant or a different example. Based on the spacing between the tassels, it looks like maybe the same example. That one went pretty cheap, but could still go for more in a better venue. It all depends upon timing and who sees it.

Possibly the same pennant...I could not find another example on worthpoint. I did see one other pennant with the astronaut logo though and it only sold for $24.

I would certainly think so, but scant "history" seems to dictate otherwise.

It all depends on how much you like it (and for what reasons...)

* If you love it but let it slip by, you might never see another and regret letting it go.

* If you are indifferent, and are just looking to flip it, you might exercise caution.

Either way, great post and best of luck!

All of us are guilty of paying a little to much for something but like Mark said if you like it buy it. And to Quote the American Pickers Mike and Frank the time to buy something is when you havnt seen it before!

Is it made of the thick soft felt Keezer is known for or is it the newer stiff synthetic stuff? If the former, I think $100 is fair. But as Mark said, it might not be a great flip because I'm not sure how many Astros collectors exist.

Thanks for all the help. I am indifferent to this (Cubs Fan) and this is going to be a flip. I think it should go for much more than the $100 as there are no other recent comparisons. I guess we will see. Ebay is probably not the best venue for it. Any thoughts? Thanks again.

Soft or stiff?

I think that's important. It might not be a great flip unless you get at least two Astros fans. I'm not even sure Colt 45's collectors collect Astros.

Yeah, I'd be careful. This pennant which I realize is a mini pennant, but it is real felt and is the only example I could find on worthpoint only sold for $25.

$100 for the one you posted seems risky for a flip.

We do. But that seems a little above the premium I would be willing to pay. Great image though. Way cool item.
