Has anyone else noticed this? That's going to be a fairly expensive mistake!

Has anyone been documenting these really cool labeling blunders by the grading companies?

i only see one recognizable bidder from the list and I've warned him. Kinda sad not to even look (or know?) at what you're bidding.

Buy the holder, not the card? It indeed appears to be turning into a very expensive holder...

Barry,

I guess I should learn to keep my mouth shut (or in this case, keep my fingers off the keyboard). Alright, I'll try to log these as I see them but there's a pretty good chance I wont see a lot of them. People are going to have to email me or post them in this forum.

FRED, TRAE and GUYS

I was bidding on some T206's (and won some) from this seller. So, I saw this
error and I was curious to see how high the bidding would go on it. When I last
looked at it....there were quite a few bidders and it was approaching $900.

Kudos to Trae for bringing it to our attention.

Fred.....I have some PSA graded mis-labelled cards. I have to search for them
and I will scan them and post them on this Thread. I think it would make for a
very interesting and informative Thread if you choose to do it.

TED Z

I've started a spreadsheet that I've called "misflips". I'll try and include as much data as possible. I didn't think about adding the final sale price (if applicable) but that's going to change. If there's no scan or photo then obviously it wont be logged. I can recall a few other big blunders like the Wagner (Heine not Hans) but I can't recall much of it. If someone has that scan I think that would be one of the "flagship misflips".

This should be treated as a rare error! As cards can be printed in error, slabs can be done in error. Hi Joe Orlando, I love you too. I am collecting error slabs from the 3 big companies. 99% of my collection is PSA which makes it worth more!!

Don't forget the M116 "Buster Brown" PSA 3 which actually is Mordecai Brown. I remember years ago someone on the old board had some T207s which were slabbed as T206s by PSA, haven't seen those images in a while but I remember one was Easterly, can't remember the others.

...I have quite a collection.

Now including two PSA Elberfeld Washington Portrait mislabels of New York portraits a PSA 1 and now a PSA 4. This is not only a mistake that PSA made, it is a mistake that PSA must have made often.

Trae,

The last card on you list of the Aaron card only shows in the listing . When you click on the link the proper card does show up. He had about 10 listing this way this morning.

What's amazing is that despite 3 bidders withdrawing their bids from $750-950, someone still placed a bid and won it for $650! The buyer's id is one I have seen bidding many times on pre-war cards so he is not a total newbie or someone like Sean.

Goes to show those snipe services can have their shortcomings. The seller had to cancel the bids placed earlier, at the same time, the seller was unable to end his auction with less than 12 hours. Mutual cancellation of the sale means no harm to anyone, Ebay won't take a fee.

If PSA (or others) cannot correctly label a easy 1958 Topps card.....
then don't be so surprised when they "screw-up" Vintage cards.

This brought up a thought...I don't send in a whole lot of stuff for grading...so if you mislabel the card description on the submission form do they actually notify you or do they automatically make the correction? Or do they simply label them as you submit them hence these glaring errors?

How about a nice 1957 Frank Robinson Rookie card.

Or this nice 1964 Mantle

Or a rare "no ad" N300 Mayo

Edited to answer question......

The N300 Mayo has the bottom 1/8th cut off (the complete Mayo advertisement), and it still grades. One of the dumber grading mistakes of the many Ive seen.

Frank,

Can you please post a larger scan of the N300 card.

Thanks!

Edited to add, this is actually not a labeling error but a grading error. I think I'll track those too. A larger, lighter scan of the N300 Shindle will be great. I have an OJ graded by PSA with the ad bottom removed.

Nice erors Trae. You beat me on the "Honus Wagner" off ebay a few months ago.

I also heard a story from a dealer in Cooperstown who said that he submitted a 57 Mantle to PSA that was a solid 6. While grading PSA creased the card heavily down the center making it a 3 at best. The grader still put it in the 6 holder and sent it back to this dealer. The dealer had morals and sold it at a 3 price and lost a couple hundred on the deal.

It makes me wonder, is it really that hard to get these things right?

Jay
