Red Tigers Sign-
Posted By: Brock G.
I asked for some opinions the other day about this sign and got a couple of responses but now I really need all opinions I can get. Got this in the mail today and I just cant determine if it is an older vintage piece or a newer reproduction. The leg on the right was apparently broken off during shipping. I felt sick when I saw it but I cant do anything about it now. It is made of three seperate boards held together by braces on the back. So its not made from one large piece of plywood so that is good, I think. The top part where it says "The Red Tiger" screams reproduction to me, but the fact that it is specific to a team and a year makes me think otherwise. I just dont know. Any opinions? I'll try to get some better photos without so much glare tomorrow. |

Doesn't look old to me...Is there any crazing in the paint? What do the nails look like that are holding this together? The streakiness in the paint IMO is to make it have a vintage look to it which probably wouldn't have been done 75 years ago. |

Holding on to the hope that this is real is probably just wishful thinking. I was looking at the back and the fact it is painted black doesnt bode well. If it were old the back would be worn but it is shiny black. Cant really see any of the nails holding it togerther. Still looking forward to see what you guys think. |

Brock... I would vote reproduction as well. This is simply my gut feeling, when I look at it. It would be best to inspect this in person... usually aged wood and old hardware is very easy to determine. |

I concur. I see this type of piece in antique malls frequently. Just enjoy it. |

I agree with Mark. This certainly looks like a reproduction from the photos. |

It is a very eye catching piece regardless of age or authenticity. Pictures dont do it justice. I'm trying to find a place to hang it my room now. I'm going to have to move some stuff around becasue this thing is about 3' x 2'. Thanks for the responses guys. I love being able to communicate with people who have an appreciation for this kind of thing and knowledgeable enough to answer questions for me. Thanks again. |

Brock, the important thing is that you like it. As long as you didn't pay too much for it then you got a nice eye-catching item that you will enjoy. |

$35 including shipping seems like a good deal to me given the size and workmanship that went in to making this sign. I'm happy with it. |
