Default 1935 Wheaties boxes

Posted By: Mike

I have three wheaties boxes completely intact, and in great shape, except the tops were neatly cut off. An old lady kept her buttons and bows in them. No kidding...anyway, one is the Gehrig, one is a tennis player, and one is a football player. the gehrig is mint.(Except the top is missing. Anyone out there able to tell me who in the hinterlands, can help me place somewhat of a value on these, and secondly, do any of the big three grade the Wheaties" ? (After they have been cut out of course)

I've seen the Gehrig (card only) in very good condition sell for a little over $50. Cut off I'm not sure. Post a scan please. PS; I haven't seen a slabbed example.

The complete box seems like it should be more than $50.00. I have a complete 35 with Foxx on it, and I was offered $600.00 about 12 years ago.

A complete box is rarer and should be more desirable than just the card. That's for any box card-- Wheaties, Twinkies, Bazooka or Milk Duds. Unless the rest of the box is in sad shape, I'd leave a box card on the box.

I agree. I'll never cut them off the box. The Foxx sits proudly in my office, as he has for many years. The gehrig is almost mint, truly, except the top was cut off. Otherwise it's great. I like the looks of them.

Even cut off the box, the Gehrig, like the DiMaggios in the later series, is more like a $150 item, especially with the frame still on it ... I believe that still probably makes it as cheap as any "active" card of Gehrig ...

The value will depend on the rarity of complete 1935 Wheaties boxes. For comparison, the small 1951-2 Wheaties boxes are relatively plentiful (collectors can find these often) and the complete box is roughly priced at 2x the value of the card on the box. A 1935 Wheaties box is much rarer than a 1951-2 and presumably the multiple would be higher.

These are the regular (large) boxes. Someone asked me to scan them. My scanner, as usual is on the fritz. I will try as soon as possible.

My scanner appears to be operating. I received 4 e mails from folks wanting to see these, so tonight around 7 or so, I will scan photos and input them in here.
