Default September Pickups

I will start off the month with my latest pickup; 1952
Topps Ed Mathews and the nicest PSA 1 you'll ever see.
Thanks Doug C [for the card].

So far this month, this is about all I've gotten...

Guess who is busting a CASE of 1991 Score to try and get a Mantle auto card?

There are tons more Chippers, I just grabbed a handful for the photo. I'm about 2/3 of the way through the case... No Mantle yet.

Default More Hanks added to the collection

1954-1956 Spic and Span Lou Burdette and Hank Aaron. Really excited about the Aaron. It would grade a poor, but it's a very hard card to find.

1955 Hank Aaron double header. Love this series!
DSCN6320.jpg

The prettiest "good" card I've seen.

I just got it in the mail today and when I opened up the envelope and pulled it out, I couldn't believe how nice it was. I won it off Ebay, and the it looked good on there, but you really never know until it is in your hand. It does have a small crease on the back that is only apparent when the card is looked at from an angle.

Theres a 91 Mantle Auto on the bay that is numbered 0007 but for some reason graded a N0 PSA Authentic according to the cert verification on PSA. Not sure if it was because PSA did not give autos a numerical grade at the time. Its worth a shot though for a nice auto despite the grade.

I may be the only person in pickup thread history to get compliments for selling a card. I think those were meant for you, but I'll take whatever endorsements I can get!

I'm pretty much tapped out on modern rookies, so I toil with obscure/odd variations from time to time. Finally got around to picking up a 1990 Topps glossy rookies Griffey with the test strip, and a 1989 Upper Deck Dick Schoefield with Griffey Jr. rear overprint...

If it turns out to be a 1953 Topps Mantle you are going to have to remove that "I'm not Doug" reason for editing from your post with the '52 Topps Mathews because I just bought one today.

Congrats, lets see your Mathews. If you do post it do I get congratulated? As far as the scan goes, I see it in every post thats says "I can't see the scan"--weird? And yes it is a 1953 Mickey Mantle PSA 1 but a nice one!

I bought a PSA 3 '53 Topps Mantle so maybe that's why people are getting us mixed up. I do have the scan from eBay, but I'm going to rescan it when it arrives and then post it. I will make sure to put in the post that any congratulations that I get for the card be addressed to you to make up for all of the ones I got for the '52 Mathews you bought from me. I did use some of the money I got from the Mathews to buy it so technically you do deserve some of the credit!

I really can't see the scan in your posts, but I saw the card in your photo album. It's a really nice looking PSA 1. Congratulations!

Thats strange, but yes it is the one in my photo album. It has great centering just like the Mathews but it has a small pinhole which doesn't bug me too much.

The pinhole isn't very noticeable. I thought it was just a brown spot at first. Is that what the mark (MK) qualifier is for or is there something on the back?

There's a small stamp of the original owner and his address on the back. I doesn't detract from the card but rather give it some character. It was also the same owner of the 52 Mantle that I just bought but fortunatley wasn't stamped. Where's your 53 Mantle?

Just got these back from SGC. Pretty pumped. Pujols is the only modern player I collect. I know that they are not really vintage but at least the ozzie is close

The Harper will be hitting the bay at some point for some paypal for more vintage

If he cares about his place in history even just a tiny bit, he will be.

But, he's welcome at Chavez Ravine, if he has any interest in working for a parking lot attendant and his ex-wife.

I'm not really a fan of the '53 Topps set. The art is good, but I just prefer actual pictures I guess. I got a decent deal on it so if I get bored with it I should be able to at least break even for a change.
