Default 1915 CJ Cobb SCAM

Posted By: Matt

As I'm actively on the lookout for a low grade CJ Cobb, I was excited to find this listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1915-Cracker-Jack-30-TY-COBB-SGC-30-EXMT-Front_W0QQitemZ260225448339
Alas, it is a scam. The seller wanted me to buy it right away using "i SOLD it" saying they already have the card and I should send them my money, yada yada (his email text matched known scam language on the internet). ISoldIt is a real company, but they are a consignment service - they don't ship for private ebay listings.

Rawn - I wish! If I could find a CJ Cobb on the B/S/T I certainly would forego ebay, but for now, ebay is a necessity due to the selection.

Same thing I have said in other threads. I hope that Leon has taken all of the input here in the forum and will make his site a great hit. I'm on the b/s/t at least once an hour and have found only one thing interesting to buy, should this be a call out to our fellow board members to post things here first?

This card did sell on ebay several months ago. It sold for about 5-6K I can't recall. It had been listed in an ebay store for a long time at around 5K I belive. Since I have been looking for a cobb to complete my set I watch every one I see.

It was interesting to see that this card ending up selling for a lot more when it ran as an auction then the seller originally wanted.

Those pictures just look stolen from that auction but I don't have the link anymore.

The card from the 11/11/07 Ebay auction (scan from vcp) It sold for $4750.

And the card in question currently on ebay

I can't see the cert clear enough in the latter image, but it looks the same to me.
Is that a pinhole in the top border?

I was an underbidder on the Cobb. There was no pin hole. The grade is due to paper loss on the back. According to the seller, the card was removed from an album.

Edit: According to the seller, the red background was not a vivid red but more like a red-orange. Maybe due to some fading?
