Default Your thoughts on this ebay lot

This group of cards was listed on ebay in England over the last week or so (a veritable whos' who of some of the more valuable baseball cards).

The seller has stated that there are some genuine and reprints. He/she does not state which cards fall into which category.

From the images I would ascertain that the following are real:

Howell, Lang, Fonseca (all with issues) plus Cullup and Whiteman.

In your opinion is anything else real? If not that is a lot of money for the 5 cards above.

BTW I did not bid on this auction.

Default If only...

I'm guessing that the two 1935 Goudey cards are real as well, which would bring the average price of each authentic card to below the 100 pound mark.

The description indicates RP (reprints) so you can be fairly certain that any card worth a substantial amount is an RP. Looks like the British are coming with their loads of crap now...

I can tell you it was not worth the winning bid. Probably not the shipping charge. Perhaps two strip cards, a common Goudey and T206 are real. Obviously, anything worth money will be a reprint. The rest appears to be garbage-- I mean that literally, because the winner will probably throw it away.

Of course, it's hard to believe he found this lot his family's tin in England, and saying he knows some are real and some aren't but not saying which is shady.

This mystery lot reminds me of the Red Green episode where they found unopened food cans but the labels had fallen off, so they made a communial mystery soup. The problem was it turned out some of the cans turned out to be paint thinner and car wax.

It's also hard to believe that he "can't be bothered" to find out if the Wagner is real. Or the Cobb back. Or either of the Baltimore News Ruths.

Default A spot of bother

If I had that grouping of cards I would be hot and bothered to find out if they were real. But then again, such effort might spoil high tea.

He says he knows some are reprints and some are real-- which would seem to say he knows which ones are the real ones. He's just not saying.

If he has enough knowledge that some are real, he has enough knowledge to know that many of those would be worth big $$ if real. It would be "worth his while" if he wasn't sure they were reprints.

In the beginning and the end, it's a bs listing that serious bidders should automatically bypass. But I think serious bidders already know that.

A bidder might say "I need that strip card. But could you just throw away the rest of the crap, because I don't want to pay shipping on it."

A good collector's rule of thumb is if a seller knows which ones are real and which ones are reprint but won't tell you, move on to another seller.

Glad I have learnt enough on here to know what to look for.

I'm also in England. There are exceptional cards that emerge at times. There was an N172 lot about 3 years ago that contained some stunning cards.

Too many red flags on this lot though. I hope the buyer realises and returns them!

Wow, that lot sold for ~ $750! I suppose I should feel bad for the buyer.
