Default T206 Southern League Old Mill backs expensive?

I just came across an ad (here, I think) for some T206 cards with the Southern League version of the Old Mill back and I really like them. I was poking around for some cheap examples and prices on eBay seem really high compared to other backs. Am I missing something? Are they more rare than I realized?

Southern Leaguers are scarce compared to a common t206, hence the higher price. Old Mill Southern Leaguers carry a bit of a premium over a Piedmont350 Southern Leaguer. However, only a few bucks in most cases.

I agree with Luke: the OM backs are not expensive, but all Southern Leaguers were short-printed, and are therefore more expensive than T206 commons.

Default Jon

These 34 - Southern Leaguers are relatively easy to find with the OLD MILL back.
And, are somewhat tougher to find with the PIEDMONT 350 back.

Bay
Bernhard
Breitenstein
Carey
Coles
Cranston
Ellam
Foster
Fritz
Greminger
Guiheen
Helm
Hickman
Hooker
Howard
Jordan
Kiernan
Lafitte
Lipe
Manion
McCauley
Molesworth
Mullaney
Otey
Paige
Perdue
Persons
Reagan
Revelle
Ryan
Shaughnessy
Smith (Atlanta)
Thornton
Violat

The reverse is true for these 14 - Southern Leaguer's, who are tougher to find with the OLD MILL back.
And, are more available with the PIEDMONT 350 back.

Bastian
Hart (Little Rock)
Hart (Montgomery)
King
Lentz
Miller
Orth
Rockenfeld
Seitz
Smith (Shreveport)
Stark
Thebo
Westlake
White (Houston)

In any event, none of these 48 cards are "rare" with OLD MILL backs.

Maybe my research was just too brief and it's just a time when no one is asking a reasonable price on eBay. Thanks for the feedback.

Default Hindu Southern League

Let's not forget Hindu southern league backs. They're far more scarce and much more expensive than OMSL or Piedmont 350 SL.

Hindu is cool and all, but since I'm a pretty low budget collector, I'm looking for stuff that is less scarce but more appealing to me personally. Polar Bear backs, for example - I really like them, and they're not so common as to be everywhere but not rare enough to have a real price multiplier.

Ted Z says:

These 34 - Southern Leaguers are relatively easy to find with the OLD MILL back.
And, are somewhat tougher to find with the PIEDMONT 350 back.

Just as a point of reference, my set breaks out as:

Bay....Piedmont
Bernhard....Piedmont
Breitenstein....Old Mill
Carey....Piedmont
Coles....Old Mill
Cranston....Old Mill
Ellam....Piedmont
Foster....Old Mill
Fritz....Piedmont
Greminger....Piedmont
Guiheen....Piedmont
Helm....Old Mill
Hickman....Old Mill
Hooker....Old Mill
Howard....Old Mill
Jordan....Old Mill
Kiernan....Piedmont
Lafitte....Old Mill
Lipe....Piedmont
Manion....Piedmont
McCauley....Old Mill
Molesworth....Piedmont
Mullaney....Old Mill
Otey....Old Mill
Paige....Piedmont
Perdue....Old Mill
Persons....Piedmont
Reagan....Piedmont
Revelle.....Old Mill
Ryan....Piedmont
Shaughnessy....Piedmont
Smith (Atlanta)....Piedmont
Thornton....Old Mill
Violat....Piedmont

AGAIN Ted states:
The reverse is true for these 14 - Southern Leaguer's, who are tougher to find with the OLD MILL back.
And, are more available with the PIEDMONT 350 back.

...And mine breaks out thusly:
Bastian....Piedmont
Hart (Little Rock)....Old Mill
Hart (Montgomery)....Old Mill
King....Piedmont
Lentz....Old Mill
Miller....Piedmont
Orth....Piedmont
Rockenfeld....Piedmont
Seitz....Piedmont
Smith (Shreveport)....Piedmont
Stark....Old Mill
Thebo....Piedmont
Westlake....Old Mill
White (Houston)....Piedmont

I really think, though Ted Z is correct, that there is not a large difference in availability Piedmont versus Old Mill....but I WAS wrong....once....

I've never met the man, but from what I have read on this board, Ted Z. is like E.F. Hutton to me.

Just to tag along with Boca's report:

From my collection;

13 of my 34 on Ted's list of "easier oldmills" are piedmont and 4 of my 14 on Ted's list of "easier piedmonts" are old mill. (no hindu's)

Nice info on this thread so I thought I would reboot it today...This Gremminger OM was kind of expensive...I was bidding and ended up winning it. It actually looks okay in the holder. I've always liked this card. It is very difficult to find in T213-1

That's a beautiful card. FWIW, I have been selling off my southern leaguers over the last few years and the OMSs usually draw more interest than the P350s even at slightly higher prices. There is definitely a premium for OMSs--somewhere between 10 and 20%. (Also thanks for reading/commenting on my recent article).
