Showing Your Passion (for baseball cards that is)

As I was driving across Kansas today I ended up behind a suburban (a big SUV anyway) with the license plate "BBCARDS". Obviously, being a collector, I got to wondering who this person was and what they collect (and if they might even be a contributor to this board). I figured anyone who would get a personalized license plate like that probably has a real passion for their hobby (note that I assume the plate is referring to baseball as opposed to maybe basketball cards or other).

Then I thought about myself and how probably very few of my coworkers or acquaintances even know that I collect baseball cards and fewer still would know anything about my hobby focus(es). I know a lot of contributors have displays at their offices or elsewhere and was curious how many, and how, folks like to share their collecting interests with the world.

I've posted these before. The cards are seemingly well hidden, but show on closer inspection. I have no defence thus against my colleagues' comments: they know I have a problem.

a lot at work and get caught often and asked what it is so i explain, when certain co workers show interest and curiousity i show them some of the same cards i own on either ebay or someone's link here on the forum and they are in "ahhhhh" when i tell them the prices. one particular day i brought my 4 cobbs, 3 youngs, 3 matty's and 2 johnson (t206 set) and showed them...then i tell them what they are worth and they just about sh*t themselves when they realize they are holding roughly $15k worth of tobacco cards....and then i break the news that there are guys here that have hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cards and makes my collection look worthless...

Virtually every square inch ( I am not kidding) of my office walls are completely covered with Original pieces of Pre War items. When I take people in there, they just kind of stand and stare, not sure what to say. Most have no idea who Eddie Cicotte is, or who Jimmie Foxx is, Hack Wilson, Buck Weaver etc. etc. But they Find it fascinating. Then I haul out a few babe Ruth cards, simply because everyone knows him. People can relate to him. But as a rule, I don't tell alot of people of my compulsion, because they just wouldn't understand. or care. But on the rare occasion, when I do find someone who does have some basic knowledge, or interest, I will talk their ear off. I can talk for hours. But again, it is pointless to try and talk about my Birdie Cree card. But if people have a sincere desire to see them, I haul them out. Little kids find it cool, but who knows if they even know what they are looking at. Items from 1889 don't mean much to a 8 year old.
