Default Authenticity of Cards

Posted By: Greg Theberge

Hello, am pretty new to the hobby of collecting cards, but have been collecting old brewery advertising for thirty years. Forgive this question if it's been asked to death, but when buying cards, does purchasing a graded card from a company such as PSA or SCG guarantee that the card is genuine, or genuine but not trimmed? I can spot a fake Brewery lithograph from a mile away, but I'm pretty ignorant on cards. Thanks for any help you can share.

But that is the assumption that many collectors make. Even grading companies aren't perfect, but if you go with SGC/GAI/PSA, you should be okay, though there are plenty of examples of trimmed cards being slabbed. But stay away from any other grading company besides these 3, however.

As just mentioned, if you buy a card graded by PSA, SGC or GAI you can be confident that the card is authentic.
