Default REA AUCTION---I CONSIGNED My BOYHOOD COLLECTION!!

Very similar to what our Owner Leon did a few yrs ago, I have decided it's time to let my 1950's originals go on to someone else. I consigned 28 items for this Fall Auction and hopefully some of them will end up in the hands of loyal Net54 members.

Most all are one-owner cards that I purchased in my youth and was able to hang onto for almost 75 yrs, including several Hi-Grade Mantle cards, several early Bowman baseball sets (completely graded & partially graded sets), early Bowman football sets including completely graded 1950 & 1952 Large and various other boyhood treasures.

I will continue selling other parts of my collection right here on Net54 as I have been doing for the past many years.

Just wanted everyone to know that I have some very nice Quality items in REA's latest offering.

Thanks for your time,

Fred

Geddy Lee said it well in the article in the Athletic about his collection:

As a sign that the collection isn’t just about hoarding artifacts, Lee sees the pieces he’s amassed as simply a stop along the way.

“Baseballs, nobody owns them,” Lee said. “They’re like houses. You take care of them for a while, and then they move on to the next person, the next custodian.”

Fred, I love seeing the the always interesting things you always have up for auction or sale in the B/S/T, especially the very interesting magazines. Absolute best of luck with your auction, of course, but does this mean no more GoldenAge50s items in the B/S/T, sir? That would be awful.

Hey James--

I plan on continuing to list in the BST--both in the Auction section & the other listing areas as I've been doing for many yrs!

I still have a backroom full of cards, mags and many other things to offer as I strive to leave my wife & daughter much less to deal with later on!

Thanks Ben!

Yes, I would dare say that Press Pass is as unique as anything in the whole auction--I'm pretty sure it's a "One of a Kind" item!!!

THANKS to all who have commented!!

Hi Fred--

That info is in the write-up!

4 of the sigs were gotten in the locker room right after the game by my Providence Journal reporter/brother-in-law & 3 were gotten in person by me.

When did Wade sign it? Was it in the locker room right after the game or later by you?

Fred, I am constantly amazed at he condition of cards from your boyhood collection that you have posted here on net54 and in the REA auction. Dang, man! You really took great care of them. I always thought I did too but, thinking back I carried them home from the store in my shirt pocket, used a few rubber bands... Anyway, great collection. Well done and hope you have much success.

Hi Ben--

I got Wade later on at a show here in New England--if I recall correctly it was the yearly Wilmington MA show.

Jerry---

I appreciate the kind words.

Hope EVEYONE has a GREAT DAY!

Best of luck with your lots! Hoping my lots pick up some steam. I submitted my 48 Leaf Jackie, 48 Leaf partial set, 54T set and a 50B Jackie. All have gradually climbed, but not quite where I thought they’d be. We shall see

I could probably click through and check out some of the lots mentioned above, but I'm feeling lazy.

How did they end up doing?

Are you happy with the results?

As Billy above you said about a rather slow start, I felt the same way, but was also confidant that the end result would be quite satisfactory.

As it turned out, I actually reached what I was hoping for, so I would call MY results very satisfying!

Thank You Ben---and EVERYBODY who posted & wished me well!

I am quite pleased w/ the $$ results, but must admit it was VERY DIFFICULT to part w/ cards & sets I bought as a kid & held just about my whole life!!

I am getting over it slowly but surely, as I have convinced myself that it was the right time & the right thing to do. Your own situation could be very different, so assess it as such when the time is appropriate!

Bobby--

I didn't think I would ever be able to do it also, but 3 things made up my mind for me---My age, some health issues & the fact I didn't have anyone to leave them to.
My wife & daughter will be much better served by me doing it this way!

Octavio--

Thank You!

Desiderata

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Strive to be happy.

Smart move, however difficult to do.

I'd like to leave my kids and grandkids a modest collection so they can appreciate something that has brought me pleasure. But I realize there is a fine line between something cool and leaving something that is a bit of a burden to deal with.

You can't take it wth you. Sell to someone who will give it a good home.

My wife & daughter will be much better served by me doing it this way!

Thank You!

Fred,

This is the first time I have seen this post as well. Glad your auctions results were good!

I'm 72 years old, and I have had the same thoughts and emotions as you do. Best wishes, and I'll check BST!

David

So Fred, what cards are you buying with your new funds?

Hi Al--

I have been pretty much done buying for a few yrs now--Instead, I was building up the courage to let my 1950's originals go to an auction house & finally this Fall was able to get it done!

I still have a big backroom full of cards from all sports & some non-sports, along w/ old magazines, Becketts, SCDs & other things! That's why I continue to run auctions & list in the BST.

(Of course if I ran across a collection at a yard sale or similar, I probably wouldn't be able to resist!)

To Steve W, Steve N & David--

I appreciate your nice comments!
