Great looking R305's, Bob!
I've been seeing those a lot on this board and they're starting to grow on me a bit.

It's been a slow "October" for me so far...

N175 style Gypsy Queen boxing card:

Also got this a while ago but I don't think I ever posted it. The check is a 10/1/1927 Yankees check signed by Ruppert and Barrow. What got me was its purpose (the inset there shows it): World Series!!!

One old, one new. Thanks Jim for the nice T222.

I've been told that the Zeenuts are more valuable with the coupon off so I cut it off.

there is a lightweight named Willie Clark who went 1-2-2 from 1889-1893, and he was from NYC. Maybe that's him?

Turner,

What set/year are those cards? I'd be interested in getting some and I've seen them once or twice here on the board, but no one says what set/year they're from. How much do they usually go for?

Thanks, Ray

Ray,

I really couldn't tell you. It was just a man who had all different kinds of cards spread out all over his table with some not even in protectors. All he said was that it was from the late 1800's. He had 10 bucks on it but I worked him down to $3.

It is a really cool looking card.

Turner

That card is a Victorian Trade Card circa late 1880's. Its called H804-19 Horizontal Brownies Series and there are 6 cards to the set according to the Keetz guide. Its a great find and a great steal at $3.00.

I picked up my 2nd 1912 Zeenut last night.

Although a last minute sniper ran up the bid, the price could have been much worse if it wasn't for the kindness of several board members that stepped aside once they knew I had a strong interest in the card.

Thanks again gentlemen!

Patrick

In case you have not paid for the Cobb yet, It is a reprint with a polar beat back added to it, this is not an SGC holder, the reject slip had been put in a screwdown holder by the seller.

Yeah i no its not a real holder. i no the seller vary well (fellow member on the board here) and he provided better scans. its real, but the scan makes it look fake. has scotch tape on most of the card, makes it look funny. i will scan it when i get it. If it was counterfeit, it would have been stated in the SGC package. thanks for the help though

Why use an obscure sugar coated three letter code like ALT, when a clear four letter code is more to the point? FAKE

I will agree. It appears that a previous owner did what he felt necessary to preserve an important card. His skills however, are about the equal of mine.

Where does this leave me with regard to my statements about grader terminology? I guess ALT ain't bad. But what happened to Authentic?

was given ALT because it has tape and glue on it(corner was off at one point i bet) . it would be authentic if nothing wrong other than paper loss, creases etc etc.

Oh I will admit T206King, that I am more thick than the average brick; but are you telling me that if I take an authentic card, add tape and glue to it, it becomes non-authentic? Altered yes, but still authentic, I would think.

If I wanted to send in my Scrapps card that was torn in half and glued back together would SGC give it an Authentic "grade"? or would they not encapsulate it?

I believe that BVG will encapsulate genuine altered cards in an Authentic holder.

King,

After much coaxing, Orlando/PSA agreed to encapsulate a T3 Matthewson that had a long piece of old Scotch tape applied to the back, keeping a large crease/tear "stable" (it was close to seperation). Initially, it was PSA rejected.

More than anything, I wanted it slabbed to reduce furthur tearing through handling. Realizing it was a Matty and hi-val, they finally agreed to accept my fifty bucks

It is untrimmed, uncolored and no other enhancements. This card is now slabbed "Authentic" and "Altered"... Hurts the value some, but gives peace of mind.

I was lucky enough to win this $ Shield Postcard tonight.

It will make a great companion piece to the M101-2 Sporting News Supplement that I previously won on ebay last year. They share the same photo.

Thanks again to a board member for "standing down."
