Default Latest Clean Sweep Auction Live

Posted By: Steve Verkman

Our latest auction closes on September 29, 2004. We have lots of great vintage baseball cards, including complete and near-complete sets of 1920s Exhibit cards, 1930s Goudey issues and 1941 Goudey and Play Ball Sets. We also have some interesting 19th century cards and much more.

The auction is live right now at www.csauctions.com. We have extremely large images of almost every item in this auction; however, anyone who would like additional detail on any item is welcome to email us or call us at 516 338 8557.

For this week only, we will send out free 120 page printed catalogs to any members of this forum. Simply email us
at info@csauctions.com and we will send out a free color catalog at our expense via US mail.

Thanks much to all of the great members of this board,

Steve Verkman

Shouldn't these types of messages by in the buy/sell/trade thread. I noticed that Sloate did the same thing about a week ago and it seems a bit inappropriate to start a new thread for advertising purposes.

Hi Tom,

I did email Bill Cornell before posting anything and he mentioned that this was proper etiquette

As an infrequent contributor to the board I didn't realize it would be considered inappropriate to post my auction in the manner I did. If it wasn't, I apologize.

Bill, I am not the only one that thinks that way..

How about starting a monthly auction thread, I think it would make everyone happy.

Lee, I agree with you. It would be nice to have a monthly auction thread to look at every now and then.

The 19th century auctions are not that numerous. I certainly can't imagine anybody has a real beef with seeing these auctions with their own thread. If it is hidden in a monthly auction thread it might get missed. I think most people on here salivate when they hear about an auction and look forward to going to the auction site when notified. IMHO.

but who cares if an auction is posted on an individual thread. Don't open it if your not interested. IMHO, I think it's a great way to get the info out. As long as every individual eBay auction doesn't show up in a thread...

Steve asked to post about the latest CS auction and I was fine with it. I don't think it's biased to differentiate between regular auctions like his or Barry's (or Lew's or Mastro's or Seth's, etc.) and those on the B/S/T thread. eBay auctions are easily found by everyone here, but non-eBay sites may not be.

For the record, the Vintage Links page (link on homepage) has a list of these auctions and many others, along with collector and dealer sites and other links.

Bill

That is what the search function is for. If it is a monthly it is there and doesn't happen to be on the top of the page use the search.

Rob, Who gets included? Who gets excluded? Why is one persons auction with OJ's in it more important than someone elses ebay auction of OJ's?

Start a monthly thread, I obviously am not the only on that feels this way.

Include only auctions that have vintage baseballs for sale (my choice anyways). Actually, the more I think about it, the more a monthly thread on auctions does make sense.

I think it is a proper service to advertise an auction. This is a totally different situation that a private individual(s) offering cards for sale. If Lew Lipset sent an email stating his auction was up would people be screaming 'foul' or would they be accessing his website. Seems like it is a bit anal to be complaining about auction notices. It is sad that Barry Sloate has to post an apology for letting everyone know there is some pretty cool vintage material available in an auction. I assume this is directed at Verkman whom people find a problem with. I say mellow out.

Their is nothing wrong w/ anyone letting us know that something that maybe of interest could be heading our way, if not interested , do not respond.

It is bad enough that our society has it that if we are not 1st at stop signs or 1st at a particular ballcard , we are livid...the fact that we still have the best roads and the best foods, the best water....etc, find happiness someway, PERIOD !

Whether we like the way, that people display their goods , does not change the way we sleep at night, so ...again, DONT WORRY BE HAPPY !

I guess posts about shipping and insurance costs are more relevant to vintage card collecting than an auction is...

Sure, let's advertise this auction for free. It's not everyday you can find overgraded vintage cards.....

So who gets to start and thread and who does not? This is not meant to be a dig on either Verkman or Sloate, but didn't Doug Allen from Mastro get blasted for doing the same thing here a few months ago?

Does Henry Yee, Rotman's or Scott Gaynor get to start a thead everytime they post stuff on ebay? Thier material is of the same quality being offered in the catalog auctions.

Souldn't this be an even playing field for all sellers?

A thread for selling already exists, why should others have preferential treatment?

No, he didn't, unless I completely missed that.

Tom, if you want to discuss this, send me an email. I can't send you one, since you didn't provide an address.

Bill

under 'Tom'. Everyone should post an email address. It's misleading and if someone can put anything in and then fire away, it only serves to inflame these threads.
