Default Would anybody actually buy Honus Wagner's house???

Posted By: T E

I know we're not supposed to talk about current auctions, but this one is so weird and off-the-wall. Leland's is auctioning off the house Wagner built and lived in after 1917. As I recall, this is not the first time the owners have tried to sell this building. Starting bid is 130K.

Is someone going to buy the house and strip it down to the foundation looking for a T206? Or perhaps someone is such a Wagner fanatic that he will buy the house, leaving behind his current home/life and probably wife to move to Carnegie, Pa? All to say, "I live in the house that Wagner built?"

Or maybe one of our members with deep, deep, deep pockets will buy it and have it moved to their backyard in Beverly Hills or East Hampton for the kiddies to use as a playhouse?

Just wondering.

I think originally Upper Deck was going to buy it and cut it into 1" squares for an ultra rare "Wagner House Piece" card.

It did have a smoking room in the original blueprints. However, Wagner, miffed at the tobacco companies for not paying him enough money, demanded that the architect cut the smoking room from the plans, hence the big hole in the back yard.

When my wife and I were looking for a house about 10 years ago we went to an open at Moe Howard's old house in Toluca Lake. Pretty sad to realize you can't afford a Stooge house. And yes, the owners had quite a bit of Three Stooges stuff throughout the house.

If you live in Pittsburgh and it's in a nice neighborhood, it looks like a nice house.

I live in Seattle, and Jimi Hendrix's one time boyhood home literally became a boarded up, rat infested crack house. I don't think you'd want to live in that.

If you intend to bid, be careful. I heard a rumor that the edges had been trimmed. But maybe it was termites. You never know.
