Default Off-centered but high grade authentic cards

Posted By: dax

what is the opinion of some of the board members about cards that grade very well...such as PSA 7 or 8, NM-MT, but receive the designation of (OC). What effect does this designation have on the value of the card? Does it substantially impair the card's value, if the card is authentic, good color and the corners are sharp with little wear and has not been trimmed? Thanks in advance for your expert opinions.

In my experience, the oc qualifier is the kiss of death. I would prefer a centered 6 or 7 to a PSA 8oc any day.

I dont even understand a qualifier for OC miscut maybe. The only one i really undestand is for a mark. I think a card thats off center can be graded accordingly without having a qualifier. Id never submit a card and ask for qualifier thats flaw was offcentering. Rather take a clean five or six

I'll purchase them sometime if the card still looks nice. For example, here is a 1948 Enos I picked up a few months back for $50 shipped because of the oc. Doesn't look bad to me.

Jon makes a good point. There are degrees of OC and sometimes you can find a very nice card at a good price because of the designation. I think the general rule of thumb is that it drops the value by about two grades (e.g. PSA 8 OC goes for a PSA 6 price).

I have 2 1965 Topps FB in psa 9 oc that I picked up for $20 each and have seen others in this grade sell for the same. They are both mint, but clearly oc. PSA 8's of the same cards would be around $40-$60 and psa 9's would be hundreds, It's a great way to pick up nice cards if you don't plan to resell. The ones I have would probably grade sgc 84 and sgc 84 would sell for around the same as psa 9 oc in this case from what I've seen. regards
