...and you know that half of those cards will reappear some time in the future without any mention of the word "reprint".

A pretty good buy if they are eventually going to be resold to some sucker for $500+

...and put them on your "kick me in the ass if I bid on this guy's auctions" list.

Why would anyone buy any of this sellers' lots without the intention of trying to decieve others in the future. It's a shame because they'll sell all of them to unsuspecting buyers. Especially when they're in those good looking PRO holders.

I turned this puke in (feldman) and received the usual generic blow off message of not enough evidence!

Which auctions were supposedly shilled by who? There were several low FB but they looked legit enough.

eBay shouldn't allow people to sell counterfeits.

I bought a Jordan counterfeit so I could write about it for my web page, and I was flooded with spam offering to sell me more, in quantity.

Does anyone have evidence that PRO grades counterfeits? Does anyone HAVE a counterfeit card in a PRO holder?

I'll offer a bounty of $20 for one.

bruce

Sorry folks I jumped to a probable false conclusion. Since all of the people were the same ones bidding in all of the auctions from this seller I thought it was obvious. After going back and looking at each auction they ALL SAY REPLICA. The drtooth guy with 1 feedback actually bought a $2500 '52 Mantle and paid for it and got his 1 positive feedback. My new conclusion is that these folks are stupid.....best regards

When he originally started selling these home-made cards, he put a disclaimer in the descriptions, indicating that the buyer had better beware: "cause it just might be an old reprint".

So now he has become a middle-man and lets his 1st-level buyers do the scamming - so what, the result is the same.

I know the seller stated they were replicas, but if say the Gretzky's (most likely) show up later, how would one know they are reprints/fakes? The T206's are fairly obvious to a prewar collector, but how can one tell on something more modern involving a big name athlete?
Wouldnt O-pee-chee have to label these reprints or were these just done in someones garage or small printing company??

Kyle-The easiest and most obvious thing to look for on a real OPC Gretzky rookie is a yellow dot on his left shoulder. I have yet to see a reprint with this dot.

For this and similar desirable singles, you should obtain some commons from the issue for direct comparison. You should obtain a blacklight to further the comparison (scientific yet easy way to compare cardstocks). It's not a crazy idea for a serious collector to keep a library of singles from various sets to be used for comparison.

Realize that, under direct comparison, a counterfeit will nearly always have one and usually more than one obvious difference from the original (gloss, thickness, fluorescence, other).

Thanks for that info Albie and David!
Albie the yellow dot on Gretzkys shoulder is a great way to identify the card immediatly, even if the image is a scan and not right in front of you for close inspection.

Albie how did you pick up on the yellow dot?
