Default Help w/ T205 & T207 Backs

Posted By: James

I'm trying to compile a complete list of backs for the T205 and T207 cards and need some help.

Here is the list I have for the T205's:
American Beauty - Factory 42 - 4th Dist. – NC (Brown)
American Beauty - Factory 42 - 4th Dist. – NC (Green)
Broadleaf – Factory ? - ? Dist. - ?
Cycle - Factory 25 - 2nd Dist. – VA
Drum – Factory ? - ? Dist. - ?
Hassan - Factory 30 - 2nd – NY
Hassan - Factory 649 - 1st – NY
Hindu – Factory ? - ? Dist. - ?
Honest Long Cut - Factory 60 - 2nd Dist. – NY
Piedmont - Factory 25 - 2nd Dist – VA
Polar Bear - Factory 6 - 1st Dist – O
Sovereign - Factory 25 - 2nd Dist – VA
Sweet Caporal - Factory 25 - 2nd Dist. – VA (Brown)
Sweet Caporal - Factory 25 - 2nd Dist. – VA (Red)
Sweet Caporal - Factory 42 - 4th Dist. – NC (Brown)
Sweet Caporal - Factory 42 - 4th Dist. – NC (Red)

T205 Questions:
1. Am I missing any back variations? If so, please list them completely as above.

2. Can you complete the Broadleaf, Drum, or Hindu information?

Here is the list I have for the T207's:

Anonymous – Factory No. 3 - ? Dist. - ?
Anonymous – Factory No. 25 - 2nd Dist. – VA
Broadleaf - Factory No. 25 - 2nd Dist. - VA
Cycle – Factory No. 25 - 2nd Dist. – VA
Napoleon – Factory No. 240 – 1st Dist. - PA
Recruit – Factory No. 240 - 1st Dist. – PA
Recruit – Factory No. 606 - Dist. – MD
Red Cross – Factory No. 10 – 5th Dist. – N.J.

T207 Questions:
1. Am I missing any back variations? If so, please list them completely as above.

2. Can you complete the Anonymous – Factory No. 3 information?

And finally ... Is it safe to say that any T205 or T207 card front can be found with any appropriate card back, unlike the T206's which was released in the different series?

Thanks for all the help,

James Walker, Jr.

Default Help w/ T205 & T207 Backs

James-

A few more:

T205 Hindu: Factory 649, 1st Dist. NY
T205 Broad Leaf: Factory 25, 2nd Dist. VA

Most T205's can be found with most backs, but this doesn't apply to all cards. For example, the minor leaguers are found only with Polar Bear or Hassan backs, and the Shean (Cubs) card only with Hassan. Lew Lipset's T card encyclopedia (available on the http://www.vcbc.com site) covers this well.

T207's are a different story; there have been a few previous posts that addressed this. To summarize: all players can only be found with certain backs, and some of the easy backs are difficult cards, and some difficult backs can be found for all players (hypothetically). Clear as mud... this is a set for masochists.

No, absolutely not with T207s. For instance it is impossible for a Ward Miller to have a Recruit back. It is impossible for a George Paskert to have a Red Cycle back. The list goes on and on. Theoretically it is possible for ANY card in the set to have an Anonymous Factory No. 3 back (Lousiana) but I don't believe this to be true and believe it exists only in theory. This theory has been advanced by those who believe that Anonymous Factory No. 3 cards are actually Coupons.
I also don't believe that you will be able to find every front in the T205 set with any back either, but undoubtedly the disparities in the T207 set are much easier to prove.

For the uninitiated, how scarce is a red cross T207 back and how much do you think the Weaver in SCP's auction will go for.

Thanks--Jay

The Red Cross back is unbeleivably tough, I doubt more than 20 have ever been found. Add the very tough Weaver front and we have a very rare card that is probably one of a kind. As far as the auction goes, 3000.00 is alot to pay for a card in poor condition, no matter how rare it is. T207's are not widely collected, but Buck Weaver cards are very popular and it will be interesting to see the results. I wonder if Julie will be bidding? be well brian

Hello,

What auction is this T207 Weaver in...is it online? I would like to see it...but have no intention of bidding on it(unless of course someone here wants to give me a couple grand to go for it!?!?!). But seriously though, I would be intereted in just seeing the card and dreaming about owning it.

Thanks,
Thomas

The Red Cross T207 Weaver is one of a kind and only 5 Red Cross backed T207s are known to exist. I will be surprised if the card doesn't top $10,000 easily. As far as condition, all the cards graded Fair should look this good!

TBob,
Thanks for the scan. Your right the card does look better than the grade, After reading the catalog description, I expected much worse. Do you know who the other 4 players are? thanks brian

Are there 4 or 5 Red Cross back T207's? Both Sportscardsplus and Mastro (in their April 2002 auction) indicated there were 4 examples. For reference purposes, Mastro auctioned off a Russell Blackburne in about Ex condition, in April 2002. It sold for $7985. This is the card that was owned by Scotty Elkins and shortly before the Mastro auction failed to sell on eBay with a significantly lower BIN price.

Here is some of the back information that you requested:

T205
Broadleaf Factory #25 2nd District VA
Hindu Factory #649 1st District NY

Hope it helps. I'll have the Drum back info for you when I get my card in from Lew Lipset.

I can't get any auction links to work. Can someone send me a valid link to the auction site - where someone could request to sign up? Thanks

I was signed up myself, with password and id, and still get mailing cards, but nothing works.

I would say there are no Sweet Cap 25's in Red. I have all variations and have looked for the existence of the SC25R for years. If you read Lew's book carefully he really doesn't say that one exists.

James,
Didn't see this on your list of T205 Backs.

Piedmont - Factory 42 - 4th Dist. NC

As far as I know your list of T205 backs looks complete with the addition of the response's from this thread.

Also, here is a link to a web site that has information
on different backs. I don't know how complete it is,
but it's interesting.
