Default Recent Pickup: Chief Bender Glass Negative

Posted By: Keith

Hey guys,

I picked up this Glass Negative of Chief Bender pitching recently and I wanted to share it. The glass measures 7 inches by 5 inches. It came inside an old envelope thats labeled Bender, and the date 9/8/09.

I have had a football glass negative before but it was of an unidentified high school team. Do glass negatives of HOFers show up much? Anyone have an idea of value?

Here are some images.
First, the scan of the glass negative as is:

Second, I inverted the scan to show the image better as it would appear in a photo. (Anyone by chance recognize the image?)

And last a photo of the envelope

Glass negatives of Hall of Famers are scarce, but can be found. Your negative's image is Grade A, plus it's dated with the original envelope, so yours is a Grade A example for Bender.

Keith- your image is superb. Is that a known pose? It looks new to me.

Thanks for the replies,

David, I am not that familiar with Grading of photographs; what is the rating scale?

Barry, I haven't seen the pose before either.

Some artist should base a sculpture on this image (bronze would look great).

Darn!

Here is a Type 1 photo from that negative that now I can definitively date based on your negative.
