Default HUNTS WOW!!! and Let's play a game .

Posted By: Mike H

I just received the new Hunts catalog and am very pleased to see a return to the days of greatness. Ok...not like the early 90s but fantastic none the less. Greg T. you better be real nice to your wife because there are some BoSox pieces you MUST get.

Here is the game. Pick your top five items from this auction sticking to the following conditions:

1. You will keep the item forever, so resale value shouldn't be a motivator.
2. No more than two items from any collecting niche i.e. bats, pinbacks, pennants, signs, etc. It's ok to pick multiple items relating to a team or player as long as they aren't from the same niche.
3. Can't use the Gehrig jersey. Yes, we would all love it, but I don't want to see it as the first pick 20 times.
4. Say what you love about each piece.

Too bad you have to pay for Hunt's catalogs. I've won tons of stuff from them in the last few years in their monthly auctions and I still don't get on their catalog list??? So I don't bid in their "premier" auctions.

(Hunt's still has the worst website of any auction house)

My choices:

must stop at 2

Someone needs to notify them that this is Francis "Ouimet" Not "Quinet". Whoever made the photo in 1914 got it wrong.

I haven't gotten through the whole auction yet, but I'm liking some of their Mule Haas offerings. Hunt's is doing a great job over the last few years of getting former player estates.

I'll take lots:

261 and 264 for pure stopping power and stunning visual appeal. I'm a bat and ball lover so I chose those over the glove pieces

291 for looks, scarcity, and subject matter (I love the little equipment displays under the team pic.

296 because it's simply one the the coolest things I've ever seen.

331 because it's on my list of top 10 memorabilia pieces I would love to have.

293? Is a stock certificate to the Red Sox. I don't see any team photo.

Aha...yep! When I saw that the first thing I thought was Greg is going to have to crack open the wallet again.

And for the record I said the same thing to myself about you when I saw a certain pennant.

I almost picked that Cubs pennant, but I've seen it before and while beautiful, it doesn't make me say WOW!

1) Lot 190, Eddie Murray Game Jersey. I'm a huge Orioles fan. Would really like to have one of his early Orioles jerseys.

2) Lot 253, Ty Cobb Stall Dean mitt. Rare glove and just like the fact it's endorsed by Cobb.

3) Lot 268, Hillerich ball knob bat. I collect unusual knob and weight configurations on bats. Very unique bat.

4) Lot 156, 1913 A's photo. Would make a great display and has a few HOFers as well.

5) Any of the Reach signs, especially the bat or ball ones.

I'd be really interested in knowing how Hunt's concluded this image was from Richmond, British Columbia, which is at the other side of the country from Montreal.

The photo is almost certainly from Richmond Quebec, a "town nestled amidst rolling farmlands on the Saint-François River between Sherbrooke, Quebec and Drummondville, in the heart of the Eastern Townships in Quebec, Canada." [per Wikipedia, the fountain of all knowledge, good and bad]

Hey guys.

Bottom o' the 7th.... Need a little breather.

Saw the Hunts auction. I remember seeing that stock certificate on ebay before. Nice, but doesn't light my fire as they say. I love the silk, but it's condition isn't there. REA had a gorgeous one in their 2005 or 2004 auction that went for huge dollars.

The only item I really love is the little stick pin. I saw that pin in an earlier auction this year and it went for $600 right after REA. Still paying off REA now, so there's no cash at all. Will probably have to let things pass unless it goes cheap (which I doubt).

OK, it's time to sing a chorus of Tessie for the guys in California. Hope they can pull it out today.

Talk to you soon

Greg

Gotta love that Tessie !

All is good in Red Sox Nation tonight, but those Indians scare the heck out of me. I just wish the Cubbies weren't out of it.

I received my catalogue earlier this week. Nice stuff.

If anyone from Hunt's does read this, I would recommend an alteration in their website to include a picture of the item next to it's Title rather than having to click on the little icon to see the item.

Many times it's nice to just scroll down a page and look at things that catch your eye visually rather than looking just at descriptions. Not a big deal, but a lot easier to browse.

Anyways, thanks for the catalogue. I've been getting them ever since I won a pennant a couple of years back.

I agree Greg and I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem for Hunt's to do this since if you do a specific search a picture will show up next to each item in your search.
