Default December 2011 Pickups

Had this one for a minute but hadn't posted it yet (at least I don't think so).

RPPC of Minneapolis Keystone team ca. 1909-1910. Frank "Bunch" Davis, Jesse Schaeffer and Dizzy Dismukes are in the shot.

Thought you all might like to see it.

This card set-me back $7 but was well worth every penny. What a journey it must have taken ................................I can only image a housewife in 1933 passing in front of the Morton Theatre and being given this card. She glanced at it, but never did find the time to see that summers blockbuster movie "Cohens and Kellys in Trouble." A year later, she is cleaning-up her pantry when this card falls out, she thought of throwing it in the trash but instead gives it to her eight-year old son. Little Billy tosses it around a little bit and promptly tacks it on his bedroom wall (multiple times). Fast forward 80+ years later.....................how in the world did it end-up in my hands??? I love this hobby business of ours!

By the way Jason, "WOW" on the postcard!!!

kashinb001.jpgkashin001.jpg

Lovely Day...

Iggy, totally agree.

I am not at all into baseball, for me the joy comes from the history of the card itself and the complexity of the sets. From printing press to pack 100+ years ago to end up in my hands. How many people have enjoyed this card, the travels of each one. Equally its about the design and beauty of the lithographs, photos and printing process.

Great pickups so far!

My favorite 'card journey' story was the one Jay B told us about the T205's that travelled all the way from the cigarette packs directly into his hands.

But it would be neat if each card came with a mini-film of its journey, perhaps skipping only the late '70s, just due to the background music.

Jimmy, I'm always trying to amuse myself - I require constant stimulation during the long Seattle rainy winters . And I wish I was kidding!

Jason - this is a fabulous photo! I have a fuzzier copy of it in a book somewhere, and remember thinking the same thing - the poses are just great.

Again could care less what number TPG's place on the flip. Back staining from scrap book removal knocked em down, but I could care less when they look like this.

Picked up this lot in the Huggins and Scott Auction last night (I'm really only interested in the first card, open to offers on the rest [Update: all but the Brashear are spoken for] - would love to chat with the winner of Lot 14):

Thanks Leon. I went into the auction on the group with the game plan of if I were to win the first several I'd better when them all. Some were steep while others were low so overall I was pretty happy with the ending lot price on the group as a whole.

Good job, Rob. I'm down to 13. Sure glad we don't have to worry about front/back combinations and variations.

Beauties, all!

Placed a snipe on this one, not really expecting to "win" the auction. Did not realize prices had dipped a bit on these... whoops!

I received this cool blank backed 11 1/2 X 20 inch Oaks "premium" "supplement" "poster" or something today.

Thanx to Phil for alerting me to an auction by the same seller that helped me to notice this one.

Doug

PS - sorry, I meant to post this on the memorabilia side. I guess I shouldn't watch Family Guy while I'm posting.

Default Heritage Auctions

Bought and paid for 5 cards from Heritage Auction in November. Maybe they will be shipped this month. If not maybe I can show them in "January Pick-ups".

I received my card from Heritage Auctions last week. As a reference point for those still waiting for their cards, I paid online the day after the auction closed.
